6 changes, 3 substitutions and no sign of a Spurs weakness.

Posted on September 20, 2013 by Random Spurs Supporter

The sign of a good team is often identified by the strength of it’s bench and last night against Tromso the Tottenham bench looked absolutely amazing, sat watching was Friedel, Vertonghen, Paulinho, Townsend, Eriksen, Soldado and Kane, four of those players bought for a combined sum of £65m, one free transfer and two that came through he ranks, add to that little lot Chiriches awaiting his work permit, the injured stars Capoue, Lennon and Chadli  and those rested which included Walker, Fryers and you could say Adebayor who is a squad member.

Of those that took to the field at the start would anybody be unhappy if  that were the starting lineup on any given week of the season, Walker in most peoples opinion would probably edge out Naughton but not by much, other than that the back four is as good as it gets, in the centre of midfield Sandro and Dembele were the stars of the first half of last season and remain an awesome duo, the Beast is almost back to his best and Dembele is as strong as an ox and easily retains possession and drives the team forward. Elsewhere, Holtby did well considering that he is still looking for match fitness, on the flanks Sigurdsson, the two goal hero from the weekend, and the new £30m superstar Erik Lamela looking to find his feet.

Up top Jermain Defoe now sixth in the scoring charts for Tottenham and closing on those in front of him fast, two starts four goals, that’s Defoe. If Soldado needed a rest or a striker to play alongside him Defoe would be the ideal man and the choice of the faithful.

This is one amazing squad and within it AVB can choose any number of combinations or formations and every one of them would be impressive. As a lifelong Tottenham supporter for the first time during the Premiership years there is real belief that something important is about to happen, there have been occasions when the club have flirted with success under the guidance of Martin Jol and then Harry Redknapp, with players of the calibre of Berbatov, Keane, Carrick, Modric and of course Bale, some good moments but this looks like it could be a more lasting and significant moment in Tottenham history, could it be the Levy, Baldini and AVB dynasty, not forgetting some of the backroom boys like Steffen Freund, Tim Sherwood, Les Ferdinand and Tony Parks amongst others doing their thing.

At the moment it’s difficult not to get carried away as this is without doubt the greatest squad assembled by Tottenham for perhaps forty years, many are starting to get the feeling that we might be about to witness history in the making and that an era of success will soon follow, it is long overdue.

6 to “6 changes, 3 substitutions and no sign of a Spurs weakness.”

I read your piece with the widest smile on my face, like the cat who not just got the cream, but all the lady cats as well!

All I will say is this is a wonderful team, the best of which we may not see the best of this season. but next season, I will say with a lot of confidence that we will be title contenders.

All that is left for me to say is thank you Mr Levy with all my heart.

    • Tony says:

We have seen some great players through the years but it has been a long time since we have seen so many top quality players together and more importantly a TEAM. Levy has done well, very well and deserves immense credit. It’s taken him 12 years and he has taken terrible stick at times but is now close to achieving his aims.

  2. fordo says:

i hope we can maintain the form for the next ten games or so….coz this time round if we slip even a top 5 finish will be hard to get

  3. Eric says:

a suggestion,u should put up previews n reviews of each game(If its tiresome then u could leave out the cup games, just a suggestion)

    • Tony says:

Cheers Eric have been looking for some new ideas and will look into it, any other suggestions welcome or if you want to post the odd article it would be welcomed
