Adebayor, Dempsey, Sigurdsson and Tottenham squad step up to the mark.

Posted on May 12, 2013 by Scraggs

Hoddle, Souness and most ex-professional players have been quick to suggest a lack of depth and quality to this Tottenham squad, but when some of the key players have suffered injury as well as lack of form in the recent run of poor results some of those that at times were not considered first choice have stepped into the breach and have begun another run of good results.

When Sandro was seriously injured and ruled out for the second half of the season in stepped Scott Parker, and when he was injured as well as Moussa Dembele up stepped Tom Huddlestone and Lewis Holtby,  Gylfi Sigurdsson and Clint Dempsey have also been vitally important with goals and assists to enable Tottenham to remain in the chase for a top four position.

Apart from injury to Younes Kaboul in the very first game of the season resulting in him missing every game since, Tottenham have had to contend with long term injuries to Assou-Ekotto, Jermain Defoe, Adebayor, Gareth Bale, Aaron Lennon, Sandro and Mousa Dembele. All of these have been considered vital ingredients in the team at various stages of the season and still Tottenham remain on course for their best points total ever in the Premiership.

Today Tottenham completed a sequence of scoring this season against every club in the division, a tenth away victory, their best in a season, and are on course to finish with 72 points. This season Tottenham appointed a new coach, one ridiculed and sacked by the chavs, then had to contend with the loss of 2 of the best midfielders in Europe in Modric and Van de Vaart, Ledley King was forced to  retire due to injury and they have had only 2 strikers to call on. The club have loaned out lots of young players, many are receiving rave reviews especially Danny Rose and Andros Townsend who will both return next season. Still Tottenham have competed against the very best and have beaten United, City and Arsenal for the first time in the same season for over 20years.

Tottenham have a great squad, a great team spirit and a great coaching set up that will only improve with the extra years experience and with the new quality that will be brought to the club this summer. There are exciting times ahead and a real intent to go on and win competitions.
