Adebayor to start with Bale right ,left and centre.

Tomorrow night Tottenham face a crucial encounter against their rivals Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, only a win will leave Tottenham in the driving seat in their pursuit of a top four finish, lose or draw and they will become reliant upon others to take points from Arsenal. Not since 1990 when Terry Venables picked the team have Tottenham won this fixture, the form guide suggests that Chelsea are the favourites again and that Wigan and Newcastle will become our second clubs in their upcoming fixtures.

The result is not a foregone conclusion as Tottenham have upset the odds already this season with victory at Old Traford and the hope is that another performance of that nature could be on the cards. On that occasion AVB managed to get his tactics just right and the result was aided by some good fortune in the second half when United were knocking on the door for an equaliser. Tomorrow AVB will probably have a depleted squad to choose from as there must be doubts over the fitness of Dembele, Lennon and Parker.

A major decision must be taken as to which forward should start, Defoe or Adebayor, as surely it would be wrong to start with both and play only four midfielders against the quality of the Chelsea five. The choice is the pace and eye for goal of Defoe or the workrate and hold up play of Adebayor, on this occasion and to start the game I would plump for Adebayor. Choosing Adebayor allows for Gareth Bale to roam all over the pitch and taking up positions in wide positions or to run through the middle when Adebayor drags defenders away. It has been noticeable that Bale has proven to provide decisive contributions against City and Southampton when playing wide on the right with a couple of goals and an assist.

Big game, big decisions, AVB is probably feeling the pressure as he has some huge decisions to make, apart from choosing from the fit members of his squad he will probably have to consider whether to take the chance on the fitness of one or two players, get it right and he will increase his hero status in one part of North London, get it wrong and, well there is always next year unless Wigan and Newcastle can defy the odds.
