Andros Townsend, consistency is the key.

Posted on October 21, 2013 by Tony

All the headlines seem to feature Andros Townsend these days as he has burst onto the scene with Tottenham and England, but is he deserving of all the accolades that have been thrown his way after such a short period of time and at such a tender age. The thing with Townsend is that he is playing extremely well and seems to play with no fear but even more impressive is his consistency. Last season he joined QPR on loan at the end of January and went on to play just a dozen games for them, in his time with them he also managed to score a couple of goals and in a struggling team, eventually relegated, he managed to terrorise every defender he came up against including Arsenal’s £10m capture from Spain Monreal. In just twelve games for QPR he made such an impression on their supporters that they actually voted him as their player of the season.

This season for Tottenham he replaced Aaron Lennon after he had suffered an injury in the opening game of the season, and has gone on to cement his place in the team on a permanent basis entirely due to form, his performances have been so good that he has forced AVB to choose him, those strong performances and an injury to Walcott as well as Lennon ended with a call up to the England squad. Roy Hodgson took a chance on throwing Townsend into the Montenegro fixture and he was rewarded with a goal and a Man of the Match performance , so impressive was he that he then forced Hodgson into playing him against Poland and again the reward was a magnificent performance.Andros Townsend seems made for the England number 7 shirt.

Mr consistency.Half a season of top quality performances already and no sign of letting up.

With a dozen games in the Premier League for QPR, a further seven for Tottenham and two for England Townsend has found amazing consistency and a level of performance that has demanded he plays, I would argue that very few players are capable of such a run of performances of such quality, especially in forward positions, even Gareth Bale had plenty of games when he failed to produce, and it is hard still to believe that Townsend is only just twenty-two.

Jan Vertonghen is a player of immense talent and even he is impressed with the level of performance and quality that Townsend has shown, he rates him extremely highly and believes that he could go on to emulate the ability of Bale given time, most telling was the remark that he is two-footed and is equally as good with either, Gareth Bale has a magical left foot and whilst no mug with his right it isn’t even close to the necessary level to call him two footed.

With luck and hard work Townsend will be an exceptional player and it is going to be interesting to see how far he does go, he has been pulled aside by Levy and signed a far better contract and for a longer period, hopefully he continues his progression, makes such an important impression over the remainder of the season and earns another new contract next summer before he flies off to Brazil.

Off topic but does anyone else fancy Remy.He could be a better option than chicharito since both him n Soldado r poachers.Apparently he wants to stay in london n with us have a good rapport with qpr giving players on loan n harry I’d fancy him to be more than a back up.Unlike our current strikers he makes runs from the wings, gets past defenders, heads well n is physical too. Before qpr he was linked to bigger clubs in arsenal pool chelsea. If the rape case isn’t n issue then i say we should look at him.Btw he’s cheaper too unlike the market these days

M sure we have many gooners who come here just to dislike comments n go away. It’s sad cause they may not have any of their own sites

I’m an arsenal fan and I just find it stupid if that is what happens. The only reason I come onto this site is to have discussions with people which I find very interesting.

Caleb your comment is appreciated and most of us really do enjoy the banter provided it is not over the top, a few digs and a bit of ridicule is part and parcel of that as we know, but the reality is that Spurs are back and proper challengers to Arsenal and the other rich clubs. there will always be the line neither club will cross but chelsea and now City have become a couple of the most despised clubs because everything they have achieved has come from such an unfair advantage money has brought and not history and hard work like the rest, United and Liverpool will always be clubs that only their own supporters will take to because of their attitude over the years. North London dominance actually appeals to me as long as we get our fair share of it after working our way up to the level we are approaching.

I agree that spurs are back challenging arsenal all you have to do is look at the strength and depth of squad you have. United will be in big trouble if they don’t do well this year as Rooney and van Persie may leave. Chelsea will just keep pumping in money as will man city. As for Liverpool they really need champions league this year else they will lose Suarez. Top four this year for me not in order arsenal Chelsea man city spurs. For me I would put spurs fourth this year but then the year after I could see that changing.
