Another award for Bale. Aldridge and Keown must be gutted.

So Gareth Bale has now also won the Football Writers Player of the Year award which must have come as a huge shock for Martin (you must win a trophy to take part) Keown and John ( he’s a cheat but Suarez is an angel) Aldridge.

In the space of just a week Gareth Bale has now cleaned up with the three biggest awards given to professional footballers, two voted upon by his fellow professionals and another by pundits and reporters. Based on football ability Bale has been the standout performer this season having added so much more to his game, when you analyse his performances he has become almost the complete footballer. This is a player with great technique as well as speed, stamina, workrate, strong in the tackle, good in the air and whilst the amount of assists has dropped off that is more to do with his new role as well as the inability of the forwards to finish chances created.

Other contenders for the awards are all exceptional in their own way but none are adept at every discipline in the same way as Gareth Bale. This is the second occasion that he has won the players award in three years and he is still only 23yrs of age, he has adapted his game over each of the last 3 seasons, from attacking fullback able to score some incredible goals and set up opportunities and assists, he then went about becoming the best left sided midfielder/winger that he could be and become even more effective offensively, finally over the past 6 months in particular he has become a great goalscorer in his own right able to do a job anywhere across the pitch.

Many have suggested that Van Persie should have won the award because he has 25 goals so far this season, but that includes 3 penalties and so he is only marginally ahead of Bale and sits behind Suarez. In my view Van Persie has done nothing special, he currently plays for the best team in the land, a team famed for their attacking instincts and yet he has a lesser return of goals than last season in what was a struggling Arsenal team in comparison.

Gareth Bale is a more than worthy winner with only Suarez who could be considered as a challenger with an outstanding goalscoring record, workrate and will to win although a little over the top at times.
