Any 2 will do for Tottenham.

Posted on June 02, 2013 by Tony

As the days tick by every Tottenham supporter will be scouring the newspapers and internet for news of the strikers that they are trying to buy to make the difference and kickstart a period of success. We all have our own ideas on the forwards that best suit the squad and would excite the imagination, there are so many to choose from but now is the time for Tottenham to really make a statement to all the other teams and to really go for it by splashing out on a couple of really special talents.

Every day an agent, or in some cases a player’s father, links their client/son to a number of clubs for effect and maybe to catch the  attention of any club looking for a player of that particular type, unfortunately from past experience those rumours rarely if ever come to fruition. Whilst the likes of Chelsea and Manchester City and especially Real Madrid, Barcelona, PSG and Monaco seem to leak information and try to unsettle targets before buying, clubs like Tottenham and even their near neighbours tend to go about their business quietly before announcing a deal, they are both more likely to suffer from the attentions of clubs trying to pinch their own stars. We know that Harry Redknapp was happy to talk about any player the press threw out at him but that was more to please them rather than in relation to realistic targets.

This is a very interesting transfer window for Tottenham, AVB and his coaching team have proven themselves and have won the total trust of everybody connected with Tottenham, it seems that he will be given substantial backing and his judgement when choosing players will be respected. It is probably fair to say that with the odd exception AVB managed to get more from just about every player over the course of the season and performance levels improved.

Most believe that Tottenham need 2 new strikers and that 1 of the current strike force will be allowed to leave, they have been linked with all the usual suspects and more but it seems as though it might be 2 from the following list at the moment:-

1) Benteke from Aston Vllla  would seem to be the favourite at this moment, although he will be in demand there has been very little speculation of late which is a little strange, in the meantime Villa seem to be linked with a couple of forwards and might be preparing for his eventual exit.

2)David Villa from Barcelona seems to be another  strong contender according to the tabloids although it goes against all of Daniel Levy’s principles, he did though relent in relation to Scott Parker and William Gallas and both were excellent additions to the squad, Villa though will demand a wage close to 3 times their salaries and together with a fee reported to be at least £10m makes little sense.

3)Soldado has been tentatively linked before now and he is undoubtedly a quality striker, he will cost a decent sum but his stock continues to rise as does his goal return each season, Valencia will be reluctant to lose him but their failure to qualify for the Champions League yesterday and their financial worries will surely mean that a player or two will be sacrificed to make ends meet. Soldado is a very strong contender and might well be one that Tottenham try to secure.

4)The Brazilian who shall remain nameless and who will either remain with his current club until after the World Cup or go to Italy. It’s never gonna happen much as we would like it to.

5)Jackson Martinez of Porto, certainly has the qualities to succeed and would seem ideal for the Tottenham set up under AVB, he has an eye for goal and seems single minded in his pursuit of goals, the problem is though his club Porto, they are extremely hard cases to crack and must be admired for that, already this summer they have sold 2 of their stars for a combined fee of £60m following on from the £40m they received for Hulk last September, they no longer need to sell and will probably have to ensure their fans are not left devastated by another high profile exit.

6)Negredo of Sevilla, another Spanish club with financial problems and possibly willing to sell one of their prized assets, there were rumours in January that he might be headed to Tottenham. Another quality striker and scorer of four goals yesterday in the home fixture against Valencia.

Hopefully at least one of the above will be wearing the Tottenham shirt for next season as all are strong contenders, Mario Gomez is another that perhaps should be on the list but Bayern would be foolish to release him unless of course Lewandowski  joined their ranks.   There is always the likelihood of a surprise contender or a relative unknown as AVB seems the type who could be a little creative especially if he does intend to implement the 4 3 3 system from the outset next season, that would seem to entail a slightly different approach to the market.

Only 3 months until the close of the transfer window and there will be plenty of upsets and disappointments until then of that you can be sure.

Pleased Spurs have secured an extra month on the transfer window. No excuses about fax machines, run out of time, etc this time then !

  2. whlspur says:

No to Villa, No to Damiao and No to Higuain. Rodriguez or Benteke and Son or Aubameyang for me.
