Are Tottenham about to gazzump Liverpool again?

Posted on June 29, 2013 by Guest Writer

It seems like an age since Liverpool expressed their desire to buy Henrikh Mkhitaryan, it seems that he is considered to be the missing piece in the jigsaw to challenge once again for a top four place in the Premier League. What has been the delay? probably money as Liverpool await the end of the Confederation Cup and the expected sale of Suarez to Real Madrid.

While the delay in even agreeing a suitable fee with his club seems far from over the player has obviously decided he no longer fancies going back to his current club and has apparently gone AWOL. Borussia Dortmund are now reputedly back in for the player and have supposedly made an offer, they must be serious contenders for his signature as last years runners up in the Champions League.

Reports are now surfacing that Tottenham have made their interest known and they have already had discussions with Shakhtar Donetsk and the players agent. Now I have no knowledge as to whether the reports are true nor whether Liverpool really even want the player, I must assume so as the rumours have been rife for weeks. This seems a very similar situation to last season when Liverpool had all but announced the signing of Gylfi Sigurdsson, and then Tottenham came calling and it was all over bar the shouting.

It doesn’t seem all that long ago when Robbie Keane made the biggest mistake of his career and ran to Liverpool when they were a big club, now things have changed and the are much lower down the food chain than Tottenham and must pick up the players that bigger clubs do not feel good enough or have no room for.

For Tottenham supporters it is a dream, the time has arrived when they are considered a more attractive proposition for top players than the once mighty Liverpool, what is even more satisfying is that Tottenham made it happen by becoming the team to expel them from the “Sky Four”. Brendan Rodgers, Gerrard and Carragher can talk up the chances of Liverpool mounting a challenge this season but reality dictates that they have far too much to do with three clubs ahead of them.

It is probably fair to say that should it come down to Liverpool or Tottenham the London club will win hands down yet again and Liverpool supporters will shout high wages. I would guess that players like Gerrard, Sturridge and Suarez are being paid a fair bit more than Tottenham players other than perhaps Bale, in fact Liverpool’s total wage bill is £29m more than the north London club.

It should all begin to play out in the next couple of weeks as it seems that Levy and AVB are keen on securing targets early for once.

Probably but only if they really want the player.

  2. Amitosh says:

Real will take Suarez and Liverpool has a 40m kitty even without this deal. They already bought 2 players and will ofc fill voids. I expect them to be in top 6 next year
