As Arsenal flounder Tottenham face must win game at Anfield.

Though it still might not be enough come the end of the season Tottenham really do face a defining moment when they step out at Anfield on Sunday, they have been given some hope that this season might yet be retrieved. Arsenal have contrived to put together their worst results of the season just as the crucial stage of the season unfolds and with Manchester City up next and a visit to Goodison the following week Tottenham have the opportunity to heap pressure on their neighbours.

Of course it’s never quite as simple as that, it never is for Tottenham, as their own poor form has let in Everton to actually pip both North London clubs and you wouldn’t bet right now on them being fourth after the Arsenal fixture on the 6th April. Surely after all the trials and tribulations of a season of disaster, a season when even our own current coach has ridiculed the players, taken to task their guts and commitment and openly stated that none are world class those same players could once again finish the season with a record number of points and perhaps even more.

It doesn’t all rest on this one game of course but though Tottenham will no doubt contrive to ruin any other opportunity given to them, it is conceivable that after this Sunday’s game they have a realistic opportunity of picking up a very good haul of points against teams in the lower reaches of the league, two bottom three, two more bottom seven and two mid table, armed with a good performance and result at Anfield confidence and possibility would be high.

Four of our remaining fixtures are away from home but with an away record that until recently was second to none there should be no fear of performing well on our travels in front of the amazing Tottenham away support, the three home fixtures feature visits from two teams in the bottom three and Villa. Tottenham should finish the season close to last seasons points haul and if they can drag some sort of result away from Anfield even surpass last seasons 72 points.

Tottenham, Daniel Levy, AVB and Tim Sherwood have all made mistakes this season and yet despite all of this, some awful performances, a failure to establish a style and a decent pattern of play since the victory over United, an endless casualty list, too many pasteings and at least a couple of unjust refereeing decisions that cost games, meant playing with ten men and deepened our goal difference problem we go into this important fixture believing something might still go our way.

Our destiny is out of our control at the moment and all the players can do is go out and win games, do that consistently well and another record points haul could follow and that might bring with it the desired outcome to the season.

It starts on Sunday and though the odds are against us our away record is exceptional and the players have a point to prove, Jan Vertonghen put the last meeting against Liverpool into a little perspective when he said recently that Tottenham and AVB were unlucky on that fateful day with an enormous injury list to players in crucial positions, a back four of Walker, Dawson, Capoue and Naughton says it all, Naughton and Sandro were both injured in the first half and left the field at only 1-0 and though the performance was terrible there were some mitigating circumstances. Now is their chance to put it right and prove that they are every bit as good as Liverpool but it will take a great performance from the off, no more slow starts and players in positions created to incorporate them into the team, as ~Tim once said defenders defend, attackers attack and midfeilders do a bit of everything but he should also add to that Christian Eriksen should be our playmaker operating close to the striker.
