AVB warning to Arsenal is no big deal.

Posted on October 26, 2013 by Guest Writer

As usual the tabloids use any sort of comment to sensationalise and try to cause a little more disharmony between teams competing against each other, if it happens to be between near neighbours with fierce rivalry so much the better, their fans will all take it on board and react accordingly.

The recent so called ominous warning that Andre Villas-Boas dished out to Arsene Wenger and the Arsenal contingent in fact amounted to little more than pointing out the fact that Tottenham are the only team in the top half of the league that Arsenal have faced so far, with fixtures coming up against teams actually competing with them things will undoubtedly get a little tougher, by the same token he also said that he expected Manchester United to climb the table after playing most of their games so far against the top teams. None of that is condescending or much different to what just about every football fan in the country already knows.

Press conferences and interviews with players and coaches as well as comments cribbed from articles appearing in papers and magazines abroad are what the media thrive upon, in all fairness the football industry as a whole sometimes frowns upon certain actions and comments but some controversy is still good PR and continues the never ending promotion of the sport.

AVB did little more than point out the obvious, that the title race is still wide open after just eight fixtures, no surprise, that Arsenal have had the easier fixture list, it doesn’t take a brain surgeon to see that, United haven’t yet clicked but have played already many of the teams in the top half of the table, as the current Champions can there be any doubt that they will improve and form a challenge , whilst I personally cannot see them winning the title again this season they are in a slightly false position.

As the big guns begin to face off against one another the outlook will change regularly, this weekend either Chelsea or City will surely drop out of the top four as they face each another in the main encounter, in the coming weeks Tottenham must face both Manchester clubs and each game will keenly contested and will be crucial indicators of what to expect for the season.

The media will call comments like AVB’s “mind games” when in truth it is simply stating facts.
