Bale staying:Rooney staying:Ronaldo staying:hacks struggling.

Posted on July 06, 2013 by Scraggs

With the best part of 8 weeks left in this transfer window the football reporters across Europe have had their main source of fantasy cut off,  firstly Real Madrid  finally succumbed to the immovable force that is Daniel Levy and realised that no matter how much tapping up or how many dirty tricks they employed this Chairman was not for turning. Once the £100m temptation figure had exhausted the headlines they probably at last realised that the game was up and another storyline needed to be found, up stepped Ronaldo.

As well as the perfect accompaniment to Gareth Bale being his replacement he also just happened to fit in with the new Manchester United coach apparently needing to make a big signing to impress, quite why I’m not sure, Ronaldo somewhat unhappy with his salary and a poor season and also needing to renogiate his contract absolutely fitted the bill. Suddenly he is happy again and he loves Madrid and so it seems obvious that Perez has all but caved and Ronaldo will almost certainly sign a new contract making him the best paid player in the world. His parting shot, just to leave the door a little ajar if needed, that he loves and misses the Premier League and United.

The third piece of the jigsaw saw an unhappy Wayne Rooney standing at the Old Trafford exit eyeing up only the biggest or wealthiest clubs as well as Arsenal apparently. Not a day has gone by this past week when a player has not begged him to join their respective club. This has been another case of contract renegotiation, Rooney has slipped a little in the pecking order at United, he is no longer the go to player other than perhaps from the bench. Whilst the likes of Bale and Ronaldo can demand and expect more money Rooney is no longer at that level and feared his financial package might include more years at a lesser fee, certainly no increase. Now that Moyes has announced he is staying the financial whizzkids associated with both parties have probably had to be a little creative, there will probably be a new contract appearing to improve his salary, but possibly containing some more bonuses, result and performance based, and a testimonial for him in the future (because he needs the money and the fans can pay for the privilege).

Most of the big deals are now in the bag, there is only Cavani to Chelsea or City as a viable option to grab attention OR Suarez, he seemed destined for Madrid and probably still is, but forget that he wants to escape the British media and let’s throw Arsenal and Chelsea into the mix that will sell for a while. the Suarez saga will probably go on well into August because of his lengthy ban, why pay his huge wage now when Liverpool can pick up the tab for several weeks before he leaves them.

It seems that most clubs are aiming to complete their deals early and prepare properly for the start of the season, it worked for United last year while Tottenham again struggled for a couple of months. It seems that Daniel Levy has learnt his lesson at last.
