Can Tottenham turn the formbook on it’s head?

Posted on March 16, 2014 by Random Spurs Supporter

In what will be a crucial fixture for both Tottenham and Arsenal for very different reasons past performances against each other and recent form strongly suggests that the visitors will win this game and if recent defensive performances are anything to go by quite comfortably. Unfortunately being a local derby it is never that easy and whatever anybody might believe Tottenham do have lots of top quality players and are massively underperforming.

As always the big IF comes into play but it is conceivable that IF the team is chosen correctly and IF it is set up to compete against Arsenal and combat their five man midfield then Tottenham certainly have the players to beat the opposition though whether they have the belief to do so is altogether another matter.

Some are suggesting that Sherwood will choose both Adebayor and Soldado today but surely he will have learned from the FA Cup game that if Wengers team are given the numerical advantage in midfield then they will likely cause too much damage and control proceedings.

Hopefully today Tottenham will match Arsenal in midfield areas and track them down and use their strength and mobility to take control of the match, hopefully Moussa Dembele will be fit to take to the field alongside at least one of the Brazilians or both. Christian Eriksen will be vital as his form has been impressive and his dead ball threat vital. Adebayor or Soldado, Lennon or Townsend are the other decisions to be made. Since that stunning goal against Cardiff Soldado has surprisingly been overlooked while Andros Townsend is certainly not considered to be the player to cause damage in wide areas by the current coach.

With doubts over the fitness of so many important players it is difficult to know which team will start but make no mistake Tottenham have the players to beat Arsenal, whether they have the tactics and the belief to do so is another matter.
