Chadli in as Adebayor leaves?

Posted on July 10, 2013 by Scraggs

Reports have it that Tottenham are about to secure the services of Nacer Chadli from FC Twente for what is likely to be a fee of 8m euros, Tottenham have offered 7m, Twente want 9m so a meeting in the middle seems the obvious solution to get the deal done. JTN have previously covered the possible purchase of Chadli another Belgian International. This is a player who will bring goals and assists from a wide position, predominantly the left and will offer alternatives and back up for AVB to use.

Last season 23 yr old Chadli played in 44 matches, scored a total of 18 goals with a further 12 assists on his record, he is another imposing player standing at 6’2″ and possessing great pace, it might be remembered that a few years back he scored both home and away against Tottenham in the Champions League. We have said many times that once Tottenham find another centre forward who can almost guarantee 20 goals, when put alongside Gareth Bale and his goal contribution, provided a few others chip in with their fair share, then Tottenham will be ready to challenge for silverware, Sigurdsson and Dempsey will both score a few goals, we expect Paulinho to get on the scoresheet and Moussa Dembele must turn his attacking instincts into more goals and assists. If Chadli is also added to the equation then Tottenham might turn their poor goal difference last season into one comparable with all the clubs who finished above them.

Over in Turkey it seems that much of the work has been done and that Besiktas and Adebayor might have already found common ground, whether the deal will be finalised before Tottenham actually agree a deal for his replacement remains to be seen. In some respects it is a little disappointing that Ade might be about to leave, yes, last season wasn’t his best and the amount of goals scored does not reflect the amount of chances created for him, he also let the club down by joining unfit, and then going back on his word to play in the African Cup of Nations. I did feel that when chosen that he always worked incredibly hard for the team and that work was not always appreciated by the fans, his movement created many chances for his teammates and Gareth Bale certainly benefited at times.

Football and teams do not stand still and a couple or more other good servants of the club will also leave this summer to make way for what is hoped will be younger, fitter upgrades, as Tottenham try to do even better than last season.

Ade wont leave till he finds a team to pay his wages, he is a deadwood at spurs, a costly one. Chadli is a good backup, but not a first team player. We need a top striker and a secondary one, he can fill in for our secondary choice, still a good striker is needed.

They say that with the tax breaks in Turkey he stands to earn more money and that will be the key. Chadli will fit the 4 3 3 AVB is trying to create with Benteke or similar as the focal point and Bale and another on his left to create and score. Recreation of Porto season and Mourinho’s Chelsea with robben and cole operating alongside Drogba.

Just in case we sell Ade and dont get a top striker, what will happen? A repeat of stats in front of goal. Defoe is simply not good enough

        • Tony says:

It is a worry we’ve been here for past two seasons. Let’s hope it is Benteke, if he has handed in transfer he knows somebody is lined up and it has to be Spurs surely. The QPR striker might be a last resort if it all goes pear shaped.

  2. Mark says:

No matter which way you slice it, we need this guy. We get so narrow if we don’t have Lennon and Bale. If we get Benteke as well it’ll be a ridiculous Belgium connection.
