Comfortable win on an uncomfortable pitch for Tottenham players.

Posted on October 03, 2013 by Tony

Many of the Tottenham players might have been thankful had the match been played on one of the pitches on Hackney Marshes, the pitch in Russia was a complete nightmare and continued to deteriorate as the game went on. Younes Kaboul was as far as we know the only injury and for that AVB must be thankful.

Fortunately Defoe and Chadli took advantage of their opportunities while the pitch was even remotely playable when the opposition was opened up by Lewis Holtby, firstly he dissected their defence with a perfect pass to register another assist for Defoe’s opening goal, and then he set Kyle Walker away with a ball over the top from which he found Nacer Chadli who rolled into the corner.

Chiriches started his second game for the club and just like his first against Villa looked a little hesitant before settling down as the game progressed, he certainly has some work to do before Chelsea are likely to make a huge offer for him! the quality is there it just needs time and coaching .

The longer the game went on the more difficult it became to control the ball, the short sharp intricate passing that the likes of Dembele, Holtby and Sandro have used to such effect became almost impossible and apart from the effort put in by every player it was extremely difficult for any individual to really shine.

At the end it was a very comfortable win with the only blemish being yet another injury to Younes Kaboul, we must sincerely hope that Kaboul is able to regain full fitness and that he does not become another central defender forever destined for a stop start career like Ledley King.

This was the sort of game that should have helped eased Erik Lamela into the fold but the pitch was not suited to his silky skills, nevertheless he worked extremely hard and put in a real shift for the team, not only is he a thoroughbred but he is also a worker and a team player.

Another clean sheet, four points clear at the top after another draw involving the other teams in the group, most of the squad fit and well for Sunday’s game against West Ham before another crucial international break.
