David Pleat confirms no offer for Bale.

Posted on July 28, 2013 by Eddie S

Finally the voice of reason and truth as David Pleat confirms that there has been no formal bid from anybody for Gareth Bale. He has confirmed what most Tottenham supporters have always believed that this is almost entirely media driven and there is actually very little substance to the whole issue. He went on to say that Marca the right hand media module of real madrid have led the issue and British newspapers have taken their lead from them.

While Pleat confirms that Tottenham are in control of the situation and calm over the matter he felt it reasonable to suggest that an absolutely ridiculous offer of something like £100m might turn the clubs head, not guaranteed  by any means, but simply an observation citing Manchester United and£80m for Ronaldo then being the sum to make the difference.

Tottenham are not in the same league as United at the moment, or at the time of Ronaldo’s sale, but they want to be and keeping Bale come what may is their only possible chance. Reality suggests that madrid, because of Financial Fair Play rules, would be foolish to take the gamble, they have spent a fortune already but recouped some with the sale of Higuain, they still have to negotiate a new Ronaldo deal and that will cost a pretty penny. Last summer there was continuous whining from perez about lack of funds to pay the price wanted by Levy for Modric.

This really does strike me as an unrealistic Marca story designed to sell newspapers, the British tabloids have run with it because of a lack of transfer action and sums are banded about for maximum effect.

Tottenham have absolutely nothing to lose by retaining Bale even if he fails to sign a new contract, next summer Tottenham would hope to be in the Champions League with the extra revenue that brings, another failure would result in his sale we suspect, but with two years still remaining on his contract his value would decrease to what £50m plus.

At the moment Tottenham have turned down nothing as no offers have been made and that is likely to be how it remains until 4th September.
