Does AVB consider he has the three forwards he needs?

Posted on July 20, 2013 by Eddie S

Apart from the admitted Tottenham interest in David Villa as well as the apparent Turkish attempt to purchase Adebayor it is strangely very quiet as far as incoming strikers are concerned. Most believed that Benteke was Tottenham bound but with yesterdays turn of events even that scenario is now in doubt. Most strikers are firmly settled, either with their new clubs or back in pre-season training with their existing club.

It would seem that all, or most purchases during the reign of AVB have been made based upon operating in his favoured 4 3 3 system and Paulinho might be the final piece in that jigsaw, if he does propose to base this season around that system he might consider that he already has the players needed to operate in that way, or certainly might not consider another out and out centre forward a requirement.

Last season Gareth Bale was converted into a fully fledged goalscorer and became the first twenty goal a season Tottenham player for some time, Defoe and Adebayor were the focal point but both went through some poor spells and their goal return was not quite what was hoped for, nor that of Clint Dempsey, Aaron Lennon, Moussa Dembele or any other offensive midfield player. Buying Paulinho has you would expect added more of a goalscoring threat from midfield and if he can get all the others improving their individual rate slightly then he might be in business.

There is no reason to think that Gareth Bale will do any worse than last season, in fact his ability is such that he could be looking nearer the thirty goal mark.Adebayor was as good as any forward in the country the year before last and when he finally found his fitness and form toward the back end of the season he really began to cause the opposition problems.

I think I speak for every Tottenham supporter when I say that the hope is that this will not be the case and a new specialist striker will be brought in, similarly that it will not be the end of  this summers spending, whilst there is every faith in AVB nothing must be left to chance, better to have too many forwards than not enough.

This could turn out to be a defining moment in Tottenham’s history, get it right and the sky’s the limit, get it wrong and the chances are it will be back to the drawing board and prepare for life without Gareth Bale. Daniel Levy has done a fine job in raising Tottenham’s profile and standing within the game, he has done so by running a tight ship and rightly so, this transfer window just what has he to lose by chucking some serious money into purchases, get it right and Tottenham can go on to become regular Champions League participants, get it wrong and the finances can be put right with just the one big sale which will happen anyway with failure.

We have all been waiting for that purchase that says “We are Tottenham and we’re back” but most of the players in that category have already been bought, time is not yet running out but the list of meaningful strikers is.

Now is the time and Tottenham and Daniel Levy must not be found wanting.

CHRISTIAN ATSU OF FC PORTO IS GOING TO BE A GOOD DEAL IF WE CAN SNAP HIM UP UNDER LIVERPOOL NOSE. COYS EXCITING TIMES AT SPURS

the signing of chadli might knock that one on its head but he is still a good player and would be a great price. Goals from midfield with chadli and Paulinho but another 20 goal man and anything could happen.
