DoTottenham now have the two best teams in north London?

Posted on August 19, 2013 by Eddie S

Probably a bit cheeky at this stage but still quite possibly not so far from the truth when you consider the players still at the club and able to form another team.  Continuing with the 4 2 3 1 formation that AVB seems happy with for the moment the following lineup taken from the remaining players would still expect to beat most Premiership teams and man for man would probably still expect to come out on top against the current Arsenal team, especially at home . From the players that started the match on the bench on Sunday and the others available when fit Tottenham would be able to put out the following team :-

Friedel in goal  behind a back four of Naughton, Kaboul,Fryers and Assou-Ekotto, the two in centre midfield almost pick themselves with Sandro and Capoue, the three players just ahead of them would be Bale, Carroll and Townsend with Adebayor up top, even then there are alternatives with Holtby or Defoe able to step in quite easily in a couple of positions. Seven of that team were considered regulars for Tottenham a little over a year ago when they finished the season in fourth place while Capoue has been purchased at great expense and Townsend, Naughton, Carroll and Holtby have all proven their ability with opportunities at Tottenham or elsewhere over the past year or so, even Zeki Fryers had turned out for United in the Champions League and is continuing with his development at Tottenham.

At least four of those players would be considered to be first team regulars and another four will often start or feature in lots of fixtures this coming season, some will get the opportunity to continue their development and one or two might well move on to pastures new before the end of the month.

This article is of course intended to be a little tongue in cheek but the point is that for the first time in Premiership history Tottenham really do have strength in depth and would genuinely be able to field two quality teams, the squad is now balanced with plenty of adaptable players of tremendous ability, there is now cover in every position and before this transfer window closes it is expected that even more quality cover will be added and possibly even another marquee signing or two.

I make that twenty full internationals in the squad and when you consider that Caulker and Huddlestone who have been sold, Livermore loaned out and Parker targeted by a couple of clubs are also full internationals you can guage the massive improvement made by Tottenham in terms of the quality at their disposal.

Didn’t realise we have so much strength in depth.. Lol.. But in reality, Kaboul and Sandro will be regular starters probably swapping with Daws and Paulinho on and off.. And with some players leaving we probably won’t be able to form these 2 teams again.. Nonetheless with all the strength in depth Spurs is looking really good this season..

Possibly Coentrao will come in for Benni it seems but only Adebayor might possibly leave as they need 8 British players to ensure 25 man squad (excluding youngsters) Apart from the Bale scenario my guess is that the squad will only get better still.Paulinho, Sandro, Dembele and Capoue will all alternate and that is an incredible show of strength to have.
