Fulham didn’t help Tottenham can United?

Posted on April 24, 2013 by Random Spurs Supporter

A week or so ago all Tottenham supporters were willing Martin Jol and his Fulham team to help them in their pursuit of 3rd or 4th place in the Premier league, particularly as they were the perpetrators of this poor run of Tottenham results when winning 1-0 at the Lane. First up was Chelsea and despite a valiant effort they were defeated a little unfairly by 3 goals to nil, on Saturday it was the turn of Arsenal and again Fulham were not up to the task, again a little unluckily especially after losing Sidwell to a red card after just 15 minutes.

As a result of those results things were looking decidedly dodgy for Tottenham’s hopes especially after 75 minutes of their home fixture with Manchester City and behind to an early goal from Nasri of all people. Fortunately AVB got his decisions right with his substitutions and Tottenham absolutely blitzed City in the final 15 minutes and so gave themselves a chance.

Reluctantly Tottenham have the two teams that hail from Liverpool to thank for remaining within touching distance of Champions League football, in fact it is all in their own hands, win every game and third position is assured but this is Tottenham and that is an unlikely scenario. Everton have already managed to hold back the Arsenal charge with a draw at the Emirates and Liverpool did the same thing with the last move of the game against Chelsea in the later fixture on Sunday.

We now look forward to a couple of fixtures involving Manchester United the newly crowned Champions, first up for them is a visit to the Emirates and a game that surely places immense pressure on Arsenal in their pursuit of a top four position, this is their most difficult remaining fixture although Newcastle away on the final day will be no walk in the park either. United’s following fixture is a home game against Chelsea and the chance to help Tottenham we hope, Chelsea face a number of must win fixtures in quick succession as following that United game comes the six pointer against Tottenham and they will still have a tough encounter against Everton on the final day to overcome.

Late goals came to the rescue of Tottenham on Sunday and it is now essential that they take advantage of the opportunity that it gives them, nothing less than a win at Wigan on Saturday will do now, although against a very good team fighting for their future they must not be underestimated. Last season Tottenham finished on a high after their blip and something like the same is now a must.
