Gareth Barry for Scott Parker! no thanks.

Posted on June 13, 2013 by Eddie S

Todays “Exclusive” from todays press relates to AVB being about to swoop to buy Gareth Barry as a replacement for the ageing Scott Parker, and he will only cost about £4m and expect a wage of over £100k pw. Check their dates of birth, Scott Parker is just 4 months older than Gareth Barry and as has always been the case remains faster, fitter and with far more stamina than his supposed replacement. Obviously Gareth Barry is about to become superfluous to requirements at Manchester City, they have already purchased a new more dynamic replacement at a cost of some £35m leaving Barry looking for a final payday, whether it is him or his agent who feels that Tottenham might be his best option or his preferred destination it is never going to happen, has he not noticed Harry has left and Tottenham no longer look for the ageing makeshift replacement at a bargain price .

It never ceases to amaze me the stories surrounding players either in decline due to age or performance that continue to be linked with clubs like Tottenham seeking to storm the top positions. Nani of United seems likely to leave if a new club can be found after a couple of  seasons of fluctuating form, a player United were prepared to offer in exchange for Gareth Bale, with a price tag of £20m or more attached to Nani himself, now he seems to be attracting bids of no more than £6m, his preference seems to be Juventus or mega rich Monaco, good luck with that. Then there is Bendtner, still contracted to Arsenal, and fresh from another poor loan move, he has five big clubs craving his services and with a fee of only £3m, how the mighty have fallen.

Tottenham are no longer an outlet for players in decline or looking to rebuild their reputation, that is not to say that there is no place for an experienced player or two in the squad and to bring something extra to the team when called upon. Tottenham already have far better midfield players than Gareth Barry who is never likely to be swooped upon by AVB or Tottenham.

Bendtner was never mighty… The Gareth Barry rumour is tosh, give me an ageing Scotty P any day! Sandro is the ‘replacement’, hopefully he’ll be starting the new season strong
