Has Benteke deal been agreed?

Posted on June 12, 2013 by Guest Writer

Most rumour and speculation relating to Benteke had dried up in recent days possibly because of all the international duty of the last couple of weeks, although that has not normally stopped reporters seeking headline grabbing recognition. The player and his agent were proficient in handing out comments regarding his future but all has now gone quiet.

It might simply mean that Aston Villa have laid down the law and requested that their employee cut out the interviews and toe the line, it might be that they are negotiating hard to agree a new deal with the player, something promised following a standout season and to reward the player with a wage more commensurate with his obvious importance to them. The other possibility is that a deal with another club has already been agreed in principle, that could mean Tottenham, Arsenal, Dortmund or Atletico Madrid if rumour is to be believed. The reason for this speculation has arisen because of Aston Villa’s links to other forwards, the latest being Niklas Helenius a 22yr old Denmark international.

It seems clear that Darren Bent will soon be on his way and so it is possible that it is his replacement that has been secured although Villa are linked to yet more forwards and have already bought another in Tonev just last week.

Whether Tottenham would be his preferred option, or whether AVB considers a relative novice like Benteke to be the striker needed to make the difference remains to be seen, he will fetch good money for Villa of course, but with only one good season in the Premiership behind him there must be a limit and he would still represent a bit of a gamble.

Time will tell but hopefully Tottenham have a deal or two already lined up ready to be done and dusted in time for pre-season training.
