Has Brazilian strikers chance of Tottenham glory gone?

Posted on July 04, 2013 by Guest Writer

It seems like an age that Tottenham have been trying to secure the services of Leandro Damiao, well at least three or four transfer windows, now it seems that the player, his agent and Internacional are desperate to find a club in the Premier League but Tottenham no longer seem at all interested.

Rumour has it that Southampton are the only interested party in his services and as a result, as much as all concerned would like to see a number of clubs fighting over him, it is no longer the case. It has been said that Italian, French and English clubs have all expressed interest in the player in an attempt to raise his profile, price and wages, but the bitter truth is that Damiao has become a bit of a pariah in footballing terms. Tottenham for too long appeared to have been left high and dry in their attempts to buy the player, there have been an assortment of mixed messages and gameplaying by everybody associated with the player  as well as Damiao himself, it seems that his ability might now also be in question.

During the successful Brazilian Confederation Cup campaign the player was nowhere to be seen due to an injury sustained and so he was unable to showcase his ability to any interested parties, with so many other Brazilian players, including Paulinho, securing deals in various European leagues, Damiao has found himself left behind and Tottenham supporters will probably not shed a tear for him or his club.

It seems that Internacional are still hoping to receive a fee in excess of £20m for his services but with little interest in the player even £15m is a little optimistic, perhaps Levy is about to play his blinder and pick the player up for a relatively low fee using their combined desperation in his favour.

Damiao is set at 25M, and I bet Spurs will go max till 20M, that can fetch him though.

Levy has always drawn the line at £16m it seems and I don’t see that much has changed, in fact, the player has possibly stagnated in the last year and might be worth a little less. If Tottenham were willing to spend £25m Benteke over Damiao is a no brainer as he has more potential and has at least proven himself in premier league.
