Has Harry Kane’s time arrived?

Posted on November 01, 2013 by Guest Writer

Most Tottenham supporters believed that Harry Kane was lined up to join Harry Redknapp at QPR on a seasons loan along with Tom Carroll, the hope being that both players might return to Tottenham ready to continue the revolution started by AVB, might these two join the likes of Walker, Caulker, Rose and Townsend with such effect.

Because of question marks over Emanuel Adebayor and some fitness issues with Jermain Defoe the move failed to happen and Kane has since managed to get a few minutes of game time with the first team. Kane has quickly progressed into the England U21 ranks and is now scoring goals at youth international level more regularly, including a recent hat-trick.

On Wednesday Kane was a little fortuitous in that Nacer Chadli was injured himself just nine minutes after replacing the injured Kyle Naughton, being the only other obvious alternative on the bench he came on against a resolute Hull team with just twelve minutes of normal time remaining, in that short space of time Harry Kane made quite an impression to the point of almost scoring the winning goal with seconds remaining, it really was a fantastic effort of power and close to perfect accuracy. After going behind in extra time he still managed to remain a threat along with Erik Lamela while JD really did have one of his truly off days. The equaliser was a goal of some quality and he followed that up with a confident penalty in a pressure situation.

There has been so much talk of Defoe unrest and his need to play regularly in order to retain his England spot that there really might be an element of truth to it all, there is no smoke without fire as they say. Unfortunately Defoe might be the clubs top goalscorer but they have all come against inferior opposition, up against West Ham and Hull, not world beaters but defensively capable and good teams he has failed to make any real impression. If Adebayor is so out of favour and unlikely to feature then AVB should in my opinion retain Harry Kane and give him his chance when Soldado is rested or additional firepower is needed, JD has reached the point of impact sub rather than starter for Tottenham and in all honesty why all the talk of England, he is in the squad but rarely plays, in 54 appearances mostly from the bench he has only managed 9 appearances in the past 3 seasons, many blame AVB for his lack of game time suggesting he was a regular for Harry Redknapp when the truth is he played more for AVB than in any time in the previous 2 seasons when Van de Vaart was the chosen one.

Is it time to elevate Harry Kane up the pecking order at Tottenham? a player everyone at the club has enormous expectations of and a player who now seems to have stepped up to another level, whether that is enough at this stage only AVB and his staff will know but from what we are starting to see Harry Kane might be the next big star to come through the Academy.
