How many Tottenham changes versus Hull?

Posted on October 26, 2013 by Tony

AVB made seven changes to the team that began Thursdays Europa Cup tie but with the prospect of a Capital One Cup fixture on Wednesday against the same Hull side just who will he pick for this Premier League fixture. Andros Townsend, Paulinho and Kyle Walker were excused the journey on Thursday and will all be certainties to start the game but who else do we expect to start.

Hugo Lloris is now the undoubted must have number one in goal, the best of a new breed of sweeper keepers and essential to the high line so favoured by AVB, Brad Friedel will play the odd game but probably limited to the Capital One Cup until such time as the Europa group has been won. Until Danny Rose regains full fitness the back four probably picks itself especially now that Vlad Chiriches has settled down nicely and until Younes Kaboul is himself recovered.

Sandro is once again closing on his best form and it seems that the serious injury he suffered in January is now behind him, having been fully involved from the outset in both of the last two fixtures it is likely that he might be rested on this occasion enabling AVB to reunite Paulinho and Dembele in the centre.

Christian Eriksen had been the favoured option as the playmaker up to and including the West Ham game but my guess is that Lewis Holtby will retain his place in the team following some fairly impressive form, his outstanding workrate and willingness to give everything for the team is infectious and he deserves to retain his place.

Has Lewis Holtby found the form to force his way into the starting lineup?

Townsend and Soldado are certainties but who else starts? will it be Sigurdsson or Chadli? My own belief is that Nacer Chadli offers more width and pace and if he is finally fully fir is the better option, having said that Gylfi Sigurdsson has  done nothing wrong and is almost certainly working to the orders of AVB, he has reinvented himself in a position a little alien to him as he is in reality a central midfield playmaker.

Whichever team AVB finally chooses hopefully they will play with a little more pace and penetration than in recent games, perhaps an early goal will help to ensure the opposition have to cross the halfway line at some point rather than sit back and defend the point they start out with.

The bench will still be the envy of all bar one or two teams and is due to become even stronger with a return to fitness of Kaboul, Capoue and Rose, even so Sunday will likely see Adebayor or Defoe, Sandro, Naughton, Lamela, Eriksen and either Sigi or Chadli sat alongside Brad Friedel

    That probably will be the team for Sunday, possibly with Sandro in for Dembele. What I’d prefer though, is:

    Walker, Dawson, Chireshes, Vertongen;
    Townsend, Paulinho, Holtby, Chadli(to give us some width;)

      I would also go with Chadli but it is in central midfield that AVB has problems choosing, Dembele is statistically the 4th best in the countryand in Paulinho, Sandro and Capoue Spurs have four of the very best. They are all a little differentbut effectiveand they each bring something to the team. Sandro and Capoue are the better defensive options Paulinho will get goals and Dembele will run at and break defensive lines with his ability to go past players.I can still see occasions when three of them would be excellent in the same linrup.

    i think we should improve on our game or it will affect us latter coz the other teams are relly good

    • Tony says:

      it’s not quite happening at the moment but last year it didn’t truly happen until after the Everton game at the beginning of December so still expecting lots of improvement yet.
