Is Adebayor on his way out of Tottenham?

Posted on August 13, 2013 by Scraggs

There have been a number stories doing the rounds that Emmanuel Adebayor is wanted in Turkey, with a low tax rate they seem capable of matching the net income he would wish to earn, the other suggestion that Real Madrid take him as part of the Bale deal is almost laughable. Up until quite recently my own expectancy was that he would remain and along with Jermaine Defoe and Roberto Soldado form the strike force at Tottenham for the coming season. AVB would have forwards offering different qualities that would enable him to change things should the need arise.

Adebayor in my view could still prove to be a very valuable player for Tottenham this season, he is capable of leading the line alone which gives Tottenham the opportunity to rest, rotate and alternate Soldado with him, he is also more comfortable and effective in a 4 4 2 formation than Soldado at the present moment.

Everybody seems to forget just how good and effective Adebayor was for Tottenham in his first season and I do not buy into the “winning a contract” theory in relation to his form. AVB tended to rely upon Adebayor once he had regained fitness and was fully integrated back into the squad following his late arrival and return from the African Cup of Nations.

Adebayor has not been seen or been involved in either of Tottenham’s last two friendly fixtures, prior to the fixture in Monaco he was excused travelling and involvement for personal reasons! that alone is valid of course and privacy is fine but still there has been no sign of him and the season begins in a matter of days.

Does this all mean that Adebayor is actually likely to leave and if so is it also the likely outcome for Assou-Ekotto who seems to have been overtaken by Danny Rose .

AVB has certainly earned the right to make the big decisions on the players that he wants and needs but there is still some concern in relation to important players, if they stay, not being even close to match fitness with the season starting on Sunday. Lewis Holtby and Jan Vertonghen have both been injured and so there is a reason for lack of involvement, in the cases of Adebayor, Benni and even Bale none have had many minutes on the field of play for weeks  and it is conceivable that they will still be Tottenham players come the 4th September but not ready to play for a few weeks after that.

Perhaps it is time for the European leagues to change their summer transfer window, rather than operate during the months of July and August surely it would be far more suitable to change to June and July, this would enable all clubs the opportunity to settle and ready themselves for the forthcoming season. A number of clubs find their preparations badly disrupted by the devious games some clubs and their targets play to secure a transfer. I can see no benefit in the transfer window remaining open once the season starts when any adjustment can also be made during January.
