Is Daniel Levy about to land Swans the sucker punch?

Posted on August 05, 2014 by Guest Writer

It was weeks ago now that Tottenham made their interest in Ben Davies known to Swansea but negotiations seemed to go on forever until he was finally landed less than 2 weeks ago. Apparently the delay centred around the valuation placed upon the 21 yr old by Swansea, Tottenham wanted him but felt that the price tag placed upon him of some £12m was off the mark and so the work began. The media was used to try to manipulate the situation, they declared interest in the player from Liverpool and even mentioned Arsenal on more than one occasion.

Their Chairman Huw Jenkins has obviously done really well in establishing Swansea as a relevant Premier League club and  so the press even suggested that our own Chairman Daniel Levy had finally met his match,

but Levy has been here many times before and didn’t even blink, the end result, we got our man in a straight swap for our own £8m rated Gylf Sigurdsson and even managed to pick up a backup keeper, Michel Vorm, for £3.5m.

While all these negotiations were going on there was plenty of talk of interest in Wilfred Bony who had already expressed interest in joining a top six club, Swansea had secured the services of Gomis on a free but still insisted Bony would not be sold other than to a Champions League club and then only if  a huge offer upwards of £25m came in and there ended the interest and negotiations.

Since completing the deals while on tour in the States and Canada it seems that Swansea have relaxed their stance, they have firstly admitted that the player could in fact be sold if the right offer were to be made, the amount required was then mooted to be just £19m which many state is the release clause in his contract if one does actually exist, but as we creep closer to the start of the season and then the end of the transfer window they now seem to be even more relaxed over the fee required, now the suggestion being that an offer below £19m would now be considered!

Enter Daniel Levy stage right, are we about to see our Chairman charge in and land the sucker punch and land Wilfred Bony for a sum nearer to the £12m that Swansea paid for him a year ago? £15m would seem a much fairer fee for a player with 16 league goals to his name in his first season in the premiership, it seems that he wants a bigger challenge and has never insisted on Champions League football being part of the deal, Everton are no longer in the frame but no doubt ourselves, Liverpool and even arsenal will be the clubs associated with him.

Musacchio, Schneiderlin and Bony would strike me as good business before the window closes and would probably give us a squad able to compete on all fronts.

We never tried to sign a left back! Well not so sure bony can repeat last year’s performance. Anyway a good option to consider. But wont get him for 15mil. Min of 20mil will be enough.
