Is Fredy Guarin the missing midfield link for Tottenham?

Posted on June 12, 2013 by Scraggs

It seems that AVB has set his sights on Fredy Guarin to complete his midfield three along with Sandro and Moussa Dembele. No offer has yet been accepted but it seems likely that Tottenham will return to Inter Milan with an increased bid which they hope will secure his signature. AVB knows the player well as he was a key element in his midfield trio at Porto during that exceptional season when they won every competition entered.

If Tottenham successfully conclude the deal it seems that they will be going with a powerhouse midfield full of running and pace as he seems another in the mould of Dembele and able to operate in a variety of positions. Guarin is not a particularly prolific goalscorer but during that season with AVB managed 11 goals and that would be a return most would welcome from any of the midfield three of Tottenham. He is another player adept at playing wide right so would give good cover for Aaron Lennon and continue the trend of picking up players able to adapt to ever changing formations to accommodate the roaming Gareth Bale.

If this deal goes ahead, as seems quite likely at this point, then we might expect to see Tom Carroll and perhaps even Alex Pritchard more involved from the bench next season to bring a different type of guile to the proceedings when needed. Tottenham seem set to spend a huge chunk of their budget on Guarin with the major expenditure still to be made on a striker and perhaps another wide player such as Chadli or Son, latest reports seem to suggest that Son is likely to sign for Leverkusen any time now which will narrow the field a little more.

Guarin is certainly a great competitor and would fit into the team and squad comfortably giving AVB so many more options.
