Is it time to release the Beast? (video)

Posted on September 25, 2013 by Random Spurs Supporter

Last season when Sandro went down in obvious agony during the away fixture at QPR not only did Tottenham lose two points with a goalless draw, which you could argue eventually cost 4th place, but they lost a leader and a player who had become synonymous with graft and a never say die attitude, he was warrior of a player who didn’t know the meaning of defeat and is clearly an important member of the group.

During the first half of last season Sandro along with his sidekick Moussa Dembele took the battle to the opposition whenever they were able to play alongside each other, Gareth Bale took most of the plaudits but the part the pair played, along with a number of others, should never be underestimated.

It has obviously been a long road back from what turned out to be a serious injury and now we all hope that he remains fit and wins his place back in the Brazilian squad for next summers World Cup.  During the summer Tottenham brought in another enforcer Etienne Capoue and a box to box midfielder, his Brazilian teammate Paulinho, His midfield partner Moussa Dembele is the fourth member of the midfield driving force charged with protecting the defence and launching attacks through the the more advanced ranks.

Tom Huddlestone and Scott Parker were sold to make room for the new arrivals while Jake Livermore was loaned out to gain experience and possibly afford the club the opportunity to truly assess his credentials.

Sandro must surely now be close to full fitness, he has been involved in a few games of late including 90 minutes last Thursday and again last night against Villa. As expected and as always he dominated midfield and was neat and tidy and even found time to get into advanced positions on occasions.  We know now that AVB has so many choices in all areas of the team, two tremendous defensive midfielders and two players capable of driving the team forward and making things happen, along with the two playmakers Eriksen and Holtby  just who does AVB choose? In some areas of the team I doubt that there is a preferred option or players who might be construed as first choice, the four of Sandro, Capoue, Paulinho and Dembele could be played in all manner of combinations, mixing and matching any of them in the team.

Currently Paulinho and Dembele seem to be performing so well together that it is difficult to consider a change but against teams with more offensive capabilities like Chelsea perhaps it is time to release the Beast.

Your input has been greatly appreciated, have just added a page with current form for each player and basic statistics as requested by another, it’s not exactly how I would like it but will improve it when another option is available. Regards

I think anybody of the central midfielders can work well together. The Paulinho and Sandro partnership will be exciting though!!

    • Tony says:

his options are amazing 2 defensive,2 box to box and 2 playmakers. Really impressed with them all. He seems to really trust Dembele who if anything is better than last year, if only he added goals he would be top dog.
