Is Kaboul ready to fight for his spot?

Posted on August 02, 2014 by Random Spurs Supporter

Tottenham have already bought Eric Dier from Portugal for what is considered to be a bargain £4m, he is of course only 20 years of age and as such is a player for the future and not the central defender that we shall pin our hopes on this season. He will have opportunities in the first team particularly in the early rounds of European competition and cup games. We all know that we had some defensive issues last season and though some of the problems related to the set up and makeup of the team we also knew that we had constant injury problems and a distinct lack of pace in some areas to implement the formation required.

We all know the old adage of building from the back and so it seems that our new coach is already addressing the situation, Ben Davies has been brought in and Danny Rose signed to a new contract and so we have youth battling it out for the honour of being first choice for the position, centrally it seems that Jan Vertonghen will soon put pen to paper and also sign a new deal following in the footsteps of Rose and Lloris.

Great to see Younes back but will he earn new contract?

Quite what has happened to Vlad Chiriches is unclear at the moment, he apparently missed the tour with another back problem though rumours have begun to spring up of a move to Italy likely to be in the pipeline, if that is the case and the rumours of Dawson moving to Hull are accurate then we still have a shortage to fill, Dier, Friers and even Veljkovic are all probable central defenders of the future but for the here and now we need experienced recruits.

Word is beginning to spread of a move for the Argentine from Villareal and it was interesting to note that Musacchio was left out of todays friendly fixture, there seems to be a court case going on with his previous club so we might have to see how that all pans out before we know more.

Interestingly during our pre-season fixtures Younes Kaboul has featured heavily, he has played alongside Dawson, Fryers and Veljkovic and has rarely been troubled, his pace and aerial ability has been there for all to see, he has been comfortable fetching the ball out of defence and most importantly, fingers crossed, he has remained fit and well.  Hopefully Younes has turned the corner and  regains the form of a few seasons ago before his injury, that would earn him a new contract and he would again be a vital part of the squad able to act as another right back option if needed.

Kaboul is still only 28 years of age and has plenty of years ahead of him, if he regains form and fitness he could be just what we need this season and while the youngsters gain the experience needed to challenge for a regular place in the team.

Mussachio is a very very good defender. But frankly spurs could have got someone better than dier. Should have brought back caulker or tried for some one like stones. I v watched dier. Let me say he is descent but not mouthwatering. You will not get that excitement when you see a supreme talent. Mussachio is brilliant. He has his limitations but reads the game very well.

dier is 20 and has been capped at all England youth levels, he cost £4m and has potential, he is quick, two footed and technically gifted, he is also almost 6’3″ tall. Surely he is comparable to your Callum chambers at £16m, technically good but favours his right foot and not quite 6′ tall. Only time will tell whether he becomes the player we want as he for not for the now but the future.
I like the look of Mussachio he has pace and a bit about him but being only 23 not sure if he is mature enough to handle the job myself but if Poch believes he is the man then who I am I to disagree.
