It’s looking like Spurs will lose Bony to Liverpool.

Posted on July 30, 2014 by Eddie S

There have been lots of rumours linking Wilfred Bony to Tottenham over the past few weeks partially fueled by the player himself saying that he would only consider leaving Swansea for a top six club, sixth being the operative word. Tottenham have been linked to many a striker with Soldado misfiring so badly last season and Adebayor seemingly having an attitude problem with some coaches. Bony, Benteke and Lukaku are the names frequently mentioned but Benteke is still injured, and by now we all know that Tottenham and Chelsea are unlikely to do business in the foreseeable future unless it suits both parties.

Bony was the obvious solution if premiership experience was the priority,  a player unlikely to be targeted by Chelsea, City, United or Arsenal and with Liverpool about to sign Remy and Everton setting their sights on last seasons loanee Lukaku surely Bony was ours for the taking if we matched the fee required and wanted him.

As was their right Swansea stated that the player was not for sale and would remain at the club for the forthcoming season, that is until yesterday when their own hardnosed Chairman finally admitted that the player might leave this summer for a big fee but interestingly, “to a  top Champions League club” now I have to admit that the word “top” threw me for a while but I eventually decided to settle for this being a red herring , Liverpool are still in the market for a striker to replace Suarez, they are spending money like there is no tomorrow and not just the Suarez fee, the deal for Remy broke down and they seem ripe enough and desperate enough to pay a high enough premium to purchase the star man at Swansea, perhaps before he goes off the boil like Michu, that is unless Arsenal feel the need to succumb.

It now seems that Tottenham are preparing their season with Soldado and Adebayor as their principle strikers with Kane continuing to learn the ropes as backup until Rodriguez signs, is fully fit and offers something totally different to the team along with a decent number of goals.

Now the club will have to ramp up their search for a centre back but it is becoming increasingly difficult to put a name to the rightfooted defender that we might be happy with, some experience and a decent amount of pace with the ability to read the game, someone like Kaboul perhaps without the injury concerns.

I believe that the next week or so will be very interesting for Tottenham fans as the situation with the Southampton two plays out and the situation on the right side of defence reaches conclusion.
