Kaboul and Sandro(The Beast) are back and ready to do their thing.

Posted on August 10, 2013 by Eddie S

Today’s friendly against Espanyol was an excellent excercise for many of the squad as all the new boys took their place in the starting lineup and immediately showed their quality. Of course it will take more time to fully gel and get up to speed but very encouraging performances all round all the same.

Apart from the opportunity of seeing the new boys show their quality many would have been keen to see Younes Kaboul and Sandro return to action following serious injury and the crowd were not left disappointed as both made their appearance early in the second half. It was clear from the crowd reaction to their introduction how much they had been missed, both performed well and within themselves just calmly going about their job, nothing too strenuous but it was clear that both will soon be ready to make a spot their own once again.

Danny Rose made the odd mistake but he continues to grow into the position and is incredibly quick and strong, he certainly offers a massive threat to the opposition going forward  and now seems certain to be ahead of Benni in the pecking order. Kyle
Walker and Aaron Lennon showed what they were about down the right and once the real business begins are going to cause havoc between them at times.

Chadli and Paulinho had some exceptional moments and once they are fully integrated into the team and the pace of the Premier League are both going to be immense, clearly Paulinho also opened his account with the first goal which was wrongly ruled out. Soldado is going to be a massive star and will get the goals that Tottenham have paid £26m for, he is constantly on the move and aware of everything about him, he is going to be a real handful for any defence that lacks pace as he plays on the last man and makes untold intelligent runs. Not the best of results but still encouraging at times, obviously there is still work to do defending set pieces but once all the recognised central defenders are back and fully fit they will work to prevent such mistakes as we saw today.

Another encouraging cameo from Andros Townsend and he came very close to adding another quality strike from distance towards the end of the game. I have to say once more that if Tom Huddlestone does eventually leave it will be disappointing as he really does seem to have so much to offer and something totally different to just about every other squad member.

If Gareth Bale does leave now it will be hugely disappointing as he and Soldado would be two of an amazing strikeforce probably featuring either one of Lennon or Chadli on the opposite side of the new number 9.

All in all still a work in progress but with hard graft and a little time together very, very high hopes for the season on the strength of some of todays individual performances.
