Lamela announces himself in style. (video)

Tonight every doubter out there finally saw for themselves what all the fuss was about and just why Tottenham forked out the big bucks for a 21 year old Argentinian with very little first team experience. Erik Lamela finally announced himself to the British public and the Tottenham supporters who at last saw signs of the quality that a future Tottenham star possesses. At the moment many still miss the extraordinary qualities of Luka Modric and Gareth Bale but they have so many top quality players within the squad and some like Townsend, Eriksen, Capoue, Chiriches and Paulinho  together with some of last seasons stars have eased the loss, tonight up stepped another as Lamela put on a top quality performance, he was battered and bruised by the time he trudged off the pitch, his kit a deep shade of mud but he had a smile on his face and the cheers of the crowd to take with him down the tunnel.

For the entire game he used his strength, pace and skill to continuously torment the Sheriff defence until they finally succumbed and he plundered his first goal, that was clinical enough but what followed was a piece of genuine world class skill as he danced through the packed defence of the visitors and won what should have been his second penalty of the night. Up stepped Jermaine Defoe to smash an unstoppable penalty into the roof of the net to break Martin Chivers record for goals scored in European competition, twenty-three now in credit and likely that a few more will follow.

If the like of Ossie Ardilles and Ricky Villa tell us that they are excited by the arrival of a special player then surely we should not doubt them, they are both World Cup winners and know a player when they see one, both openly greeted the arrival of Lamela as a coup for Tottenham and suggested that they have a future star on their hands, not just any old star but a genuine 24ct superstar.

7/11/13 was the day Erik Lamela scored his first goal for Tottenham and the day he announced himself as a player of genuine star potential, we all know that there is still a long hard road ahead before he can be considered the finished article but he starts from a position of outstanding ability.

AVB now has another outstanding performer to contend with and we trust that he will make the most of the star quality which could mean the difference in tight games, a player with quick feet and the ability to beat defenders in tight spaces and break a line of defence, last season Gareth Bale was the game breaker but now Tottenham are threatening to have two or three such players.
