Levy set to land £140m of improvements for nothing.

Posted on August 20, 2013 by Tony

The crescendo is building as the news is about to hit that Daniel Levy has cemented his position as the greatest Chairman the game has ever seen. Already Tottenham have purchased four fantastic new players and all represent improvements on the players that have been released. As much as Tom Huddlestone and Scott Parker were appreciated by the vast majority of Tottenham supporters there is absolutely no doubt that Paulinho and Capoue represent a vast improvement in speed, stamina, power, aerial ability and quality, similarly the same can be said of Chadli for Dempsey while there is no doubt whatsoever that Soldado is a cut or two above the strikers Tottenham have and is probably one of the top ten strikers in the world.

So far Tottenham have spent around £59m on those four players and have recouped about £23m on their four outgoing players so far, Levy has a net spend of £36m going into the last couple of weeks of the transfer window, the current rumours and the betting levels on the players involved signing suggest that the Willian deal is almost done for another £30m, that might well be followed up with another similar spend on Lamela from Roma which will increase the total net spend up to about £99m.

It now seems almost certain that Gareth Bale is set to leave and for a reported fee of £93m in cash and with Coentrao thrown in for good measure, the Real Madrid left back is a well respected Portuguese international for which Madrid paid Benfica £25m just two years ago and so taking that figure into account, should all transfers reach conclusion the total value of all players brought in will have been close to £147m, with the cash from Madrid for Bale, the other transfers and Coentrao forming part of the Bale deal Tottenham will be looking at a total spend in this window of just £6m with a couple of players then needing to be sold to wipe even that sum off the spreadsheet.

Whilst the wage bill might have risen slightly because of the extra quality added, even that might not be the case as Gallas, Parker, Bentley, Huddlestone, Dempsey and Bale will have been removed and they would have all been top end earners.

I don’t suppose that anybody still needs reminding but with the extra TV revenue now due Tottenham will increase their turnover by at least £60m this year and it will rise from around £140m pa to well over £200m pa, operating costs will probably increase slightly but by my reckoning the club will still have a significant sum with which to buy that replacement for Steven Caulker as the kitty will still be around the £80m mark.

Gareth Bale will be a big loss on the basis of his performance last season but if he does sell for the reported fee ,that in itself will be considered another huge achievement by Daniel Levy off the back of just one exceptional year, Bale has always been good but £100m+ good is doubtful just yet. Before last year he was lauded more for his assists rather than his goals so unlike Ronaldo who did both for United for a few years he is still a little unproven.

Merchandising and shirt sales has always been a big part of a clubs revenue and at the moment Tottenham supporters are spoilt for choice, with three new kits and the potential of as many as seven new stars to choose from the tills must be ringing. With three Brazilians already in their squad and with another lined up it is extremely likely that Tottenham shirts will feature highly in Brazil up to and after the World Cup there next year.

However infuriating Real Madrid’s pursuit of first Modric and now Bale has been and no matter how disappointing it is to lose such quality, the money and the promotion of Tottenham the club has been invaluable, if and when this deal goes through Tottenham will long be remembered as the club that helped create Gareth Bale the superstar and who received the world record fee for a player.

The world famous Tottenham Hotspur, and now your gonna believe us.

Agree to most part except, may be the calculation is bit biased, as we freed Bentley, a 15M buy went free. If you calculate Contreo at 25M, Bentley should also get calculated. And I wonder what will happen if Real let go Bale this summer, will we get to spend Willian or Lamela still? If one of them comes and Bale stays, I do not have any issues seing we top the charts
