London clubs prepare to oust Manchester in title challenge.

Posted on June 25, 2013 by Tony

Manchester clubs have won the Premiership title for the past three seasons and only Chelsea on one occasion has been able to match either of their points total in that period. This coming season has all the makings of change as both the northern clubs have lost their manager or coach whichever you prefer, Fergie has retired and probably taken with him that feeling of invincibility whilst City look like they are having to set out on an other rebuilding process.

United managed to win the title easily last season which came as a surprise as rarely during the season did they ever really seem convincing, Alex Ferguson has retired and David Moyes taken over but to replace Fergie might prove more difficult than expected. Rarely does a replacement continue where the previous master left off, only Liverpool managed that for a period as Shankly replacements were promoted from within. United failed to replace Matt Busby for many years and a number of replacements fell by the wayside. Moyes might be the exception as there is little doubt that he has done remarkably well at Everton but he will have some problems to overcome. Wayne Rooney is playing up again and with 2 years remaining on his contract as before! Scholes has retired again and this time it will be for keeps, Ferdinand, Giggs, Evra, Carrick and Vidic will all be the wrong side of 32yrs before the season starts and some of the intended replacements like Jones and Smalling seem a little injury prone and not yet up to the task. A number of the squad have been unable to light up the team and have struggled at times with form, players like Young, Valencia, Anderson and Nani have not been as productive as expected. Might Fergie have retired at the very moment when the future is not as rosy as it has been for years and the squad is in need of a major overhaul.

Manchester City have spent fortunes to win their one FA Cup and League title, they have already had to ditch a number of high earners from Hughes period as coach and it seems that there will be another bout of dismissals now the new man has been appointed, Barry, Tevez, Lescott, Milner and Sinclair are all likely to be surplus to requirements. With the appointment of Pellegrini comes nothing in the way of success in his nine years as a coach in Europe despite spending some £200m, including the purchase of Ronaldo, during his brief spell with Real Madrid.

Tottenham and Arsenal have both gone about building a young experienced squad for a number of years and have both suffered from losing players that have reached their potential whilst with them, Tottenham with Berbatov, Carrick and Modric and Arsenal with Nasri, Fabregas and RVP, Even Chelsea began the process of ditching ageing stars and buying players for the future.

London clubs are ready and they each have more stability in that Wenger is long serving, AVB has established himself at Tottenham and Mourinho is back with the club he knows best of all.

Both Manchester clubs have much to do to maintain their position as the top two clubs in England and there is considerable doubt that either will hold off the southern clubs

Provided Tottenham sign the few players needed incl Paulinho and a quality striker then they have a better more rounded squad than both Manchester clubs. City do not seem to have much in the way of team spirit as yet, a team of mercenaries.
Title could go the way of a manager from Portugal this season.
