New name added to AVB wishlist. Is he the real deal? (video)

Posted on May 28, 2013 by Random Spurs Supporter

Today a new name has entered the frame and has been added to the list of potential strikers that Andre Villas-Boas apparently believes that Tottenham should pursue if they really mean business next season.

The name Jackson Martinez has hardly been mentioned as a possible target but after the season he has had he is certainly worthy of consideration, if the price is right. With 33 goals in just 38 games over the course of the season, including 3 in 6 in the Champions League he is certainly a decent shout. As we have come to expect dealing with FC Porto has never been easy and they will certainly demand a decent price for him, he has been with them for just a season and will again have Champions League football next season, but with Porto having disposed of so many of their stars including Hulk last September followed by Moutinho and Rodriguez just a few days ago it is likely that ambition is draining from many of their players and that might make Porto a little vulnerable.

Jackson Martinez is certainly a goalscorer, with a career record of 133 goals in 266 games and with 40 league goals in just 57 fixtures in 2 seasons.Because he has been playing in the Portuguese league for the past season and because of  his obvious connections there, if AVB feels he is a viable option then Tottenham should try and make it happen, but please let’s not drag it out only to lose out come the end of August, make it happen or move on quickly to the next option.

Here is a video of his 33 goals last season and whilst it doesn’t tell the whole story of course it does seem that there is something about this player that suggests he thrives on goals and knows how to go about getting them, check him out:-

Wouldn’t mind him at the Lane seems a real predator. Over £30m reported and that’s too rich for Tottenham and Levy

  2. Maceois says:

Just what we need up front. He’s versatile, scores different types of goals, works hard, and seems pretty strong. But if he’s more than 20mill, he’s not coming to the lane. Would be nice though. Maybe we could give a player in return to bring down the asking price?

If he’s the one then it’s time to invest £25m if that’s what it takes. Not sure about this Villa story though but if the youngsters like Harry Kane and Coulthirst learn from him and he can score 15 to 20 goals for a couple of seasons then £10m is a small price to pay.
      Time to make it happen.
