Newcastle and Sunderland only playing for pride and forTottenham and Arsenal, who will come out on top?

Posted on May 16, 2013 by Random Spurs Supporter

Come the final fixtures of the season there is more at stake than the final Champions League position there is also the fierce North East rivalry between Newcastle and Sunderland which is similar in intensity to that between Tottenham and Arsenal,  the final results will have a direct bearing on positions in the league for all concerned.

Sunderland surely have the most difficult encounter with an away game at White Hart Lane and must win to have any chance of finishing ahead of their fiercest rivals who they are currently trailing by 2 points. Newcastle are at home to Arsenal and whilst they are safe the away team must win to ensure finishing in that elusive 4th place.

It is probably fair to say that Newcastle supporters have no love for Tottenham for some reason which I have never understood, by the same token Arsenal are nobodies second team and hopefully the Newcastle faithful will cheer their team on and encourage them to finish the season on a high and so secure a position ahead of their rivals. This Newcastle team have performed poorly for most of 2013 resulting in a real fear of relegation and they actually dropped into the bottom three at one point last week, they have also been embarrassed on home territory by Liverpool who scored 6 goals without reply, that  followed a 3-0 deficit to their nearest rivals and surely they will wish to finish with the cheers of their fans ringing in their ears, if not with a result that is beneficial to Tottenham then at least with a rousing performance and a real intent to sign out with a win.

Anything can happen in the last game as the 2 teams chasing a top four spot will have to cope with enormous pressure to get the result they need, both need a win especially Tottenham as failure will render the other result unimportant.

Tottenham are used to results going against them and will recover quickly as they probably almost expect the worst, my hope is that neither fixture is ruined by poor refereeing decisions and every one of the four teams involved gets a fair game.
