One by one the 7 new signings are making their mark.

We frequently see comments relating to Tottenham’s dealings in last summers transfer window suggesting that perhaps some of the new players signed might have been mistakes. The more expensive the fee paid the more the ridicule heaped upon Tottenham and AVB, Roberto Soldado has been the major target as he was bought to score goals and has not yet been as prolific as any of us had hoped as yet, being the more mature and consistent performer most supporters and virtually all the experts expect him to come good and his last goal gave us a taster of just what an exceptional player he is. Soldado only has six goals to his credit so far, after just ten starts is that really of concern when one of our main strikers last season managed just five goals. Soldado is a class act and once the team become accustomed to his strengths expect fireworks.

Next up is Erik Lamela a player that might become Tottenham’s most expensive with all the add-ons if things go as planned. He is undoubtedly the type of player that the Tottenham public will love, he has shown glimpses of the class he possesses and last night it all came together and he stepped up to a new level. Lamela is a player with the skills to break the most defensive of opposition, a game changer who can make the difference.

Paulinho was Tottenham’s first record signing who quickly dropped to third, those that doubted his ability or whether he could adapt to the Premiership were quickly proven wrong as he quickly put those doubts to bed and he has become central to AVB’s plans and one of the standout performers in the league.

The Magnifent Seven.

Next up was Christian Eriksen who immediately showed his ability with impressive performances and a tremendous goal, his last couple of outings have perhaps not been quite so impressive as teams have set up to stifle tottenham and the game is generally being played in the opposition half with little room to operate, last night along with Lamela he again started to show what he can do and now that he has settled we hope to see him star once more.

Etienne Capoue started like a train before a fairly serious injury cut short his run, yesterday he played for an hour and immediately made an impression with a solid performance. Capoue is a big imposing central midfielder, wonderful athlete and extremely consistent, a player who rarely puts a foot wrong and along with Sandro will ensure that the midfield remains strong.

Vlad Chiriches was the last to start a game for Tottenham but has already become a fans favourite , while Jan Vertonghen has had to stand in at left back for Danny Rose and the other injured fullbacks Chiriches has easily stepped in, performances have improved with every outing as he has progressed through Capital One Cup games, to the Europa League and finally the Premiership. He is the type of player who will take the occasional chance as he possesses amazing skills for a defender  but ultimately the coaching staff will ensure he is sufficiently focused to do his job.

The last on the list is Nacer Chadli, unfortunately his season has been continuously interrupted by minor injuries, he has managed just a couple of decent performances, mainly from the bench, but as soon as he returns and looks set to make his mark another problem seems to crop up. He came on last week against Hull but lasted just 9 minutes before Harry Kane had to replace him.

All the signs are encouraging at he moment, all of last seasons squad are proving to be as effective again, a couple possibly even stepped up another level, Townsend and Rose, before his injury, both returned from loan spells and have been outstanding, Kaboul and Sandro are progressing well following serious injury and now the new boys are finding their feet AVB has to juggle the squad to ensure they all continue to develop and retain match fitness, if he can ensure a few more goals as well so much the better.

Every Tottenham supporter believes that this is the best squad that they have ever assembled, as each of the new players produces an outstanding performance, like that of Lamela last night, that belief is enhanced, to endorse that belief a trophy must surely be lifted this season and a top four position, no pressure then.

Chadli is so under rated. So looking forward to watching him play on a regular basis

    • whlspur says:

Really disappointed he has had his season disrupted by repeated injury problems, I think AVB had him pencilled in as the number one player on the left side. He will come good just as soon as he is fully fit as he needs to produce the goods to ensure he goes to Brazil although the national coach has no doubts in all fairness.

  2. tom says:

Chadli has had some good moments but too many interuptions from injury. He just needs a run injury free and he wil show his class.
