Possible Tottenham lineup for Southampton.

Posted on March 23, 2014 by Random Spurs Supporter

Already it’s difficult to actually predict the starting lineup as tim sherwood has thrown out a line that he only expects Younes Kaboul, Adebayor and Mousa Dembele as well as Jan Vertonghen, freed from suspension, to be available of those that failed to travel to Portugal. Though sceptical we shall base our team prediction around that recent report from Sherwood though I would not be at all surprised to see another two added to that list, we shall see.

This will be Tim Sherwoods second game against  Southampton as they were of course the first team that he faced as a coach, that away day brought him his first win, three goals and the secured his official appointment to the job. On that day his preference was for two forwards and though it brough about the result it is fair to say that Southampton had their chances to take the three points themseves before a brace from Adebayor took home the points.v southampton

Will Sherwood revert to type and a 4 4 2 for this game or will he simply take the pluses from the past two fixtures and blend a team to  overtake an Everton team threatening to take up the chase to overtake Arsenal for a top four position. On current form there is an argument to promote Harry Kane to lone striker as the one forward to cause problems for the back four of Benfica, in just twenty minutes he won more balls and created more problems than both Adebayor and Soldado between them.

The past couple of games has seen Andros Townsend at least begin to show that he is returning to some sort of form, sloppy at times, fails to perform his defensive duties at times but always capable of taking the game to the opposition. Nacer Chadli has been one of our brightest attackers in the last two games and finally seems to have got to grips with the Premiership, he has to start.

The other obvious lesson learned was the fifteen minutes Christian Eriksen was given against Benfica in the centre of midfield, his introduction there galvanised the team and they looked better balanced, that simple change turned the game on it’s head as Tottenham began to find holes everyone in the Benfica defence as they forced the opposition onto the back foot. The current situation with Eriksen is very much like the Redknapp/Modric dilemma, Richard Keys has already let out of the bag the fact that Jamie and Harry Redknapp had asked Andy Gray for advice on where to play Modric, out on the left was the way then while a certain Gareth Bale was allegedly being considered to loan or sell and that seems the easy option now for sherwood.

With little left to play for hopefully the team will now relax and play some fast free flowing football and players will be given the opportunity to do what they do best in the positions that they excel in.
