Prediction time for round 8 of the Premier League fixtures.

Posted on October 18, 2013 by Eddie S

After just one week of predicting the results of Premier League fixtures for Just Tottenham News I am already on notice that I must do better, well at least better than the expert from the “beeb” Mark Lawrenson. Just the two correct results and one perfect scoreline probably is not a fair reflection of the games themselves, Sunderland probably felt that hey fully justified a draw against United while Hull got the break needed to score a winning goal.

On to this weeks fixtures and my thoughts on how the games might pan out.

Saturday 19th Oct. 2013

Newcastle v Liverpool 12:45

The first game up and a difficult one to call with Sturridge of Liverpool and Remy of Newcastle both doing extremely well in front of goal. Because of a poor defensive record it is hard to envisage Newcastle managing to keep the Liverpool attack at bay for the entire game and  so on this occasion I see this an exciting game and one that will have both teams creating chances, the return of Cabaye and the form of Remy will be pivotal for Newcastle but still see this heading for a draw. 2-2.

Arsenal v Norwich 15:00

At the moment it is difficult to make any other call other than a win for Arsenal and even though there remains a slight doubt over the fitness of Ozil they will surely have too much for Norwich. Chris Hughton was recently under pressure but a good away win followed up by a decent performance against Chelsea when only a bad mistake late in the game allowed Chelsea to snatch a win. Arsenal to run out comfortable winners by 2-0.

Chelsea v Cardiff 15:00

Starting to have a few concerns for Cardiff, they have put up some very good performances at home but all based upon their defensive capabilities rather than attacking, the defeat last time out was a little to comfortable for the opposition and irrespective of Chelsea’s own indifferent form they are still pinching results. comfortable 3-0 Chelsea win.

Everton v Hull 15:00

Steve Bruce has done remarkably well so far and Tom Huddlesone and Jake Livermore in the centre of midfield have been outstanding for him. Everton and Martinez  suffered their first defeat of the season at Manchester City but remain strong competitors. I think this one is going to be very close, too close to call in fact so I’ll take the draw 1-1

Man Utd v Southampton 15:00

This fixture would once have been a home banker but not any more and certainly not this season, southampton currently lie fourth in the league on merit while United are struggling by their standards. At the moment the only United player really producing the goods is Wayne Rooney although RVP got himself back on track for his country, even so I cannot see past a low scoring draw 1-1.

Stoke v West Brom 15:00

Until a couple of weeks back Stoke were playing quite well and seemed capable of giving any team a game but a couple of indeifferent performances and defeats have got the natives a little upset. WBA have put in some superb performances of late, none lore so than in their comfortable away victory at United and i think they will carry on with that form and take all three points against Stoke. 1-2.

Swansea v Sunderland 15:00

Swansea on their day can out possess most teams and even though Sunderland seem to have been reinvigorated of late I do believe that Swansea will be far to strong for them and so I will take a home win by 4-1

West Ham v Man City 17:30

Who would have believed that last time out West Ham on their travels would defeat Tottenham by 3-0, up next are one of the title favourites Manchester City and they will again be up against it. Sam will almost certainly plump for the same type of tactical set up even though they are at home but City have so much firepower to choose from that this time it will not work. City by 2-0.

 Sun 20 Oct 2013 – Premier League

Aston Villa v Tottenham 16:00

Even though Tottenham destroyed Villa in a recent cup game I am not going to pretend that this is going to be quite as easy, Tottenham have had an indifferent second half against both Chelsea and West Ham and it is something that they need to address and quick. Christian Benteke might possibly return at some point at least for Villa and that will give them an enormous boost while for Tottenham expect to see Roberto Soldado finally get on track following his omission from the Spanish squad. I expect a strong performance from Tottenham with a few scares along the the way but ultimately winning by a narrow scoreline. Away win 2-1.

Mon 21 Oct 2013 – Premier League

Crystal Palace v Fulham 20:00

Won’t spend too much time on this game as I really can’t see anything other than a Fulham win, it will be an enjoyable affair as the Palace coach will always go for it, I just don’t think that they have enough quality in the team to influence games. Fulham 2-0.
