Premier League predictions 29/12.

Posted on December 29, 2013 by Eddie S

Yesterday’s six predictions resulted in four correct results and included one perfect score, maybe Hull did a little better than expected as did Norwich and Palace who both probably deserved better than their narrow defeats. The top teams are now starting to find their form and consequently results are starting to go to plan, maybe once the European fixtures begin again some of the unexpected will start once more.

Today there are four remaining fixtures before the New Year kickstarts the next round and they all throw up interesting possibilities;

  • Everton v Southampton 13:30
  • Everton suffered a shock defeat to bottom club Sunderland last time out, only their second defeat of the season, and they will be keen to get their challenge back on track. Southampton have been in the midst of some poor results but might have turned the corner and will make life difficult for the home team. Draw 1-1.
  • Newcastle v Arsenal 13:30
  • Arsenal managed to secure their Champions League status with a narrow win at Newcastle last season but they now face a team possibly beginning to believe they can achieve something special this season. Arsenal need a win to regain top spot but they have a battle on their hands and because of the confidence being shown by Newcastle who are in a great run of form I’ll take a point apiece. Draw 2-2.
  • Chelsea v Liverpool 16:00
  • Third versus fourth, dour versus flamboyant and so difficult to choose between the two. Chelsea are currently a team able to boss games by virtue of massive amounts of possession but lack the goals to finish teams off( a little like a North London team led by an ex-Chelsea manager quite recently). Liverpool might have been expected by some to implode once the likes of Gerrard and Sturridge were injured but others have stepped up and even travelling to City didn’t seem to faze them. Mourinho and Chelsea have a habit of getting the job done but might lack the firepower to see this one through. Draw 1-1.
  • Tottenham v Stoke 16:00
  • Much will depend upon the team that Tim Sherwood puts out today, certainly Tottenham should have far too much for a Stoke team without two of their stalwarts suspended following sendings off and their superb keeper Bergovic. If Sherwood persists with his gung ho approach and lack of defensive ability in midfield anything is possible from a big win to an embarrassing defeat, that is the Tottenham we now have. Yet again expect changes to the Tottenham lineup and with the expected return of Paulinho and a more balanced team expect a win by a narrow margin. Home win 2-1

Maybe you need to be revisiting your predictions after each and every game so that you can assess your prediction capability. From my assessment your predictions have been anything but accurate

    • Eddie S says:

Happy to accept poor results when they occur and have acknowledged so, but four from 6 as statedfrom yesterday is not bad in a topsy turvy season with many strange results.why not try giving your predictions it might be interesting to see how well you fare.

      • tinalex says:

I picked 22 games where you made predictions. These games involved Arsenal and Tottenham. Out of these 22 games you had 9 correct predictions and 13 wrong ones. Of those 9 which you predicted correctly your scores prediction was correct in only two of the games. The point I am trying to across here is that the basis upon which you make predictions appears to be highly flawed. As you go forward with your predictions I suggest that you make a verdict of win, lose, draw. This will make your predictions more respectable as chances of getting prediction right 1/3 not the one involving scores where possibilities are infinite.

        • Tony says:

I think that actually predicting the exact score is simply a bit of fun and/or to emphasis how much better a team could be such as City/palace which should have been a landslide but wasn’t. If you view all the other predictions from pundits such as merson and lawro they too include scores and we shall continue to do so thank you. Respectability in terms of exact scores is neither here nor there really. Based upon performances of late Eddie has got city v liverpool and Palace correct as he did the Norwich v United game but in all honesty all those games could have ended very differently. It’s a bit of fun and we shall not be fining or sacking Eddie any time soon. We have considered your suggestion and will respond to requests and suggestions as we always have done, some we implement but on this occasion we shall just carry on.

Ignore the critics Eddie,it takes some courage to predict epl matches this season

    • Eddie S says:

cheers Eric it is certainly an unusual season and i have also tried to be impartial and given honest opinion on Spurs games home and away, that is all you can do and when all is said and done no harm done.
