Premier League Predictions Round 15.

Posted on December 06, 2013 by Eddie S

No sooner have I finished taxing my brain trying to work out the midweek results than the weekend fixtures are upon us. After so many midweek breaks for European football and fortnightly breaks for internationals it is good to get back regular Premiership battles. Whilst there were some close calls the last set of fixtures probably went the way you would have expected and only Everton really upset the odds. Whenever I go with form or favour the obvious upsets seem occur but perhaps some continuity will now begin to benefit the form book.

Sat 7 Dec 2013 – Premier League

  • Man Utd v Newcastle 12:45
  • What a start to the weekend as the wounded United team try to regain their momentum after something of a difficult week, a fortunate draw at Tottenham followed by another home defeat that increases the pressure on David Moyes. Wayne Rooney has been their saviour so often but misses the match through suspension after picking up his fifth yellow card. Van Persie looks set to miss his fifth consecutive game and if Newcastle can recover their defensive qualities of recent weeks they could easily pick up a point.Draw 1-1premier league
  • Crystal Palace v Cardiff 15:00
  • Another opportunity for Palace and Pullis to consolidate their position having turned around their season, a leaky defence has been tightened up and they are managing to pinch a goal here and there. Cardiff have rarely been outplayed this season and almost always give themselves a chance of getting a result , unfortunately they do not possess the bench to see it through and so they remain just above the relegation zone. could go either way so I’m going for a 1-1 draw
  • Liverpool v West Ham 15:00
  • At home Liverpool seem capable of beating almost anybody and so West Ham have it all to do and could conceivably find themselves in the relegation zone by the end of the day although goal difference should save them. Suarez cannot stop scoring while West Ham struggle in the absence of their major signing Andy Carroll. Allardyce will set the team up for a smash and grab but Liverpool at home are irrestisible.Home 2-0
  • Southampton v Man City15:00
  • Southampton seem to have hit the buffers in recent games, defensive mistakes and lapses as well as very few decisions going their way, city on the other hand are putting together some results and even though in their last outing WBA came close with two late goals City controlled the bulk of the game. Southampton are a decent outfit but in the midst of a period without international interruptions City have found some cohesion and that should see them home. Away win 3-1.
  • Stoke v Chelsea 15:00
  • Once every team of any consequence were fearful of facing Stoke at the Potteries and they knew that they faced a battle if they wanted leave with any of the spoils. Chelsea are still not the team that they once were and have yet to hit the heights this season. This game could well hinge upon which team opens the scoring on the day, Chelsea seem to be having some defensive issues at the moment and Mark Hughes will try to exploit the situation. Draw 2-2
  • West Brom v Norwich 15:00
  • Norwich suffered another big defeat on the road while West Brom managed to score two late goals against City to cause them a few anxious moments. Norwich have surprised many of us as they seem to have problems preventing and scoring goals despite addressing the issue over the summer. WBA will have too much for Norwich on this occasion. Home win 3-1
  • Sunderland v Tottenham 17:30
  • I would love to say categorically that Tottenham have turned the corner but pressure does strange things and inhibits performance. They should have far too much for bottom of the table Sunderland but if nothing else Poyet has got them up for the fight. Chelsea were by far the better team with the better players but they were taken to the limit and only just managed to see out the game by the narrowest of margins in a seven goal thriller. If Tottenham can begin to take their chances and cut out the errors they should win the game but the players are feeling pressure and that is why they feel they need to speak out in defence of their leader. A 2-2 battle.
