Premier League Predictions round 16 (Sunday)

Posted on December 15, 2013 by Scraggs

Having stepped in for Eddie S yesterday I have to be happy with my predictions, five correct results and one perfect score has to be a good return from my first effort, although I got the City result correct I didn’t see another six goals from the home team but how nice it was after the Arsenal keeper had been so critical a few weeks back. Only three games today but anything could happen in any of them.

  • Aston Villa v Man Utd 13:30
  • Quite possibly Manchester United’s most important fixture of the season for their new coach David Moyes, already under pressure as a result of an indifferent start to the season and two recent home defeats he really needs to get his team firing now if his team are even going to make a top four challenge. Make no mistake another defeat today will heap enormous pressure on everybody at the club and prompt panic buying in the coming transfer period. It seems that we expect Benteke and Villa to finally find their early season form again almost every week but they are yet to do so even though they have picked up some impressive wins. The headlines this evening might involve uncomfortable reading for all at United as I have to take Villa for some sort of result and I have a sneaky feeling that the pace of their attackers will win the day. Home win 2-1.
  • Norwich v Swansea 13:30
  • At long last Norwich are on a run of fixtures against teams around them rather than those at the top, their walloping at Manchester city has perhaps been put into more perspective with similar results going against Tottenham and Arsenal at the Etihad. Swansea on their travels have failed to fulfil their early promise but with Michu back in action expect better soon. Norwich still desperately need points but against a good footballing side it’s only a point for me. Draw 1-1.
  • Tottenham v Liverpool
  • Both teams will have important players missing for this game, the Tottenham defence has been decimated by some unfortunate injuries while Liverpool will be without their captain and driving force Gerrard and Sturridge who has had a habit of scoring at the Lane. It is not just about whether Tottenham can stop Suarez today but also whether Liverpool are capable of gaining any sort of midfield control against a likely three in the Tottenham centre capable of overwhelming the opposition and wide players capable of hurting any fullbacks.
  • Tottenham are on a good run and starting to find their feet as a team and I am taking them to put it all together today, Suarez will almost certainly have his say but the Tottenham team will win the day for me. home win 3-1.

If United lose today – I would not be surprised if there is a late announcement tonight that Moyes and Man Utd have parted company.

Fingers crossed that Spurs can do the business a little later on. I predict a much tighter final score (perhaps just a single goal the difference).

A win and 3 points behind 2nd place and a only a further 2 ponts behind the leaders would be a great boost to the camp that is needed going into the Xmas period.

    Come on you mighty SPURS!!!

I think Moyes might be in big trouble with a defeat and you can only see the return in some capacity of Fergie. would take any kind of win today but surely Liverpool will not turn up to defend in depth like most have done especially the teams that have caused upsets. I would like to think that if the opposition play to win we have enough now to really hurt those that do on our own patch.
