Premier League predictions Round 22(Saturday)

Posted on January 18, 2014 by Eddie S

Until the European fixtures restart in the near future it will be essential that those clubs with hopes of achieving big things this season carry on winning with three of the teams hoping to finish in the top four and probably believing they could win the title itself  being at home today and each of them face teams in the mix at the bottom of the table. Are there any shocks likely in the seven fixtures taking place tomorrow? let’s take a look:-

Sat 18 Jan 2014 – Premier League

  • Sunderland v Southampton 12:45
  • Gus Poyet seems to have got far more from his players than his predecessor but still there is no continuity, great winning performances are often followed by disappointing defeats. Southampton have been in the middle of a bad run but performances have begun to improve more recently and even though there is upheaval in the background it should not affect performance. A tough encounter expected. Draw 2-2.premier league
  • Arsenal v Fulham 15:00
  • Top of the league and seemingly able to conjure goals from anywhere against a team leaking goals for fun. On the face of it this should be a resounding victory for the league leaders as they try to stay ahead of the game. Fulham are in serious trouble and yet they have some incredibly experienced players within their squad capable of doing far better, I don’t see this turning into a rout but still a Home win 2-0.
  • Crystal Palace v Stoke 15:00
  • Both teams gave a great account of themselves in their last outings against Tottenham and Liverpool respectively and so I expect this to be a close encounter and a battle to the end. Tony Pullis has certainly had an affect on the performance of Palace while Stoke are often hit and miss. Both teams need the points as a bottom placed Palace can put themselves just two points behind Stoke with a win and I think they might get it. Home win 2-1.
  • Man City v Cardiff 15:00
  • Who would want to be in Cardiff’s shoes with an away fixture against the form team of the moment. Freescoring Manchester City are beginning to live up to their reputation as having the best squad in the league right now and who would bet against another big win at the Etihad. The new man in charge at Cardiff will by now be aware that he has a sizeable task ahead of him if he is to save Cardiff but this won’t be one of those good days. Home win 4-0.premier league
  • Norwich v Hull 15:00
  • Norwich added a number of forwards to their squad in the summer but none have so far managed to make sufficient impact to drag them to a respectable position in the table despite some decent performances of late, Hull on the other hand have  recently splashed out on a new striker from Everton and are looking to add yet more with a bid in for Shane Long. Hull are really starting to make headway and steve Bruce has done an impressive job and continues to build. Away win 2-1.
  • West Ham v Newcastle 15:00
  • The Hammers managed to pull off a vital win at Cardiff last week and now that their main striker is back in action they will be hoping that they can string a few results together to climb the table. Newcastle have had opportunities  in recent weeks to dent the hopes of the top two at home but have failed to live up to expectation and are starting to fall away in the race for a place in Europe for next season. Draw 1-1.
  • Liverpool v Aston Villa 17:30
  • This week Brendan Rodgers was quite open in declaring that he truly believes that Liverpool are real contenders for the title  and being in 4th place and only 6 points behind the team at the top you might think he has a point, Villa on the other hand are once again finding life difficult and unless Christian Benteke regains the form of last season could be in trouble yet again. In the past whenever Rodgers has talked up Liverpool they have been brought crashing back down to earth and the pace of Villa could just be their undoing. Not a defeat on this occasion but Benteke, having now found the net again, could be the one to destroy Liverpool as he did last season. Draw 1-1.
