Premier League predictions Saturday 8/3/2014

Posted on March 07, 2014 by Eddie S

Not a great set of predictions last week as this topsy-turvy season continues along it’s way, since Christmas Eve each of the current teams in the top four have led the division and there will be many more changes as the weeks go by. At the beginning of the season many were predicting that clubs like Tottenham might have a good chance of upsetting the odds because of so many managerial changes at the top and United and Liverpool have been the obvious examples yet Arsenal, Chelsea and City have all increased their points total compared to this time last season. As we get into the crunch period of the season all of the clubs with ambition of winning the title, finishing in a Champions League spot or simply retaining their Premier League status will have to step up to the mark, six pointers will be coming thick and fast and there can be no excuses now and the time for coming out with the usual comments such as ” you don’t win anything in March” to be wrapped up, we know that you can’t win anything now but you can go a long way towards blowing any ambitions held or retaining a healthy interest in achieving objectives.

Tomorrow the fixtures are once again interrupted by the FA Cup with City falling further behind in games played but let’s take a look at the offerings tomorrow and try to make some sense of them.

Sat 8 Mar 2014 – Premier League

  • West Brom v Man Utd 12:45
  • Two teams in terrible trouble at opposite ends of the table, West Brom with a new man at the helm in desperate need of points to avoid dropping into the relegation zone against the current league champions out of the race for a top four spot and battling for sixth place at best. Surely this is one of those games that United will comfortably win as they face a team trying to find it’s identity, with Wayne rooney having just signed his new £300k pw contract which probably means he is earning as much as seven or eight of the opposition put together. Away win 2-0.
  • Cardiff v Fulham 15:00
  • Doom versus gloom as both teams crash their way towards the trap door to the Championship. you get the impression that both clubs have brought this on themselves and almost deserve their inevitable relegation, both have sacked managers and caused mayhem within the ranks as between them five coaches have been employed already this season and yet none have improved matters so far. Irrespective of the result both seem destined to go down at this point but a positive result for either one of them could change all that, sadly I doubt either will get it Draw 1-1.premier league
  • Crystal Palace v Southampton 15:00
  • both clubs have flattered to deceive in recent weeks though Southampton have nothing to play for other than pride as their season fizzled out weeks ago. Palace need points as Tony Pullis tries to pull them away from the relegation zone. Palace seemed to have done quite well in the transfer window and as the new boys gel it should be expected that results improve. Home win 2-1.
  • Man City P – P Aston Villa
  • Norwich v Stoke 15:00
  • The home team are four points clear of the relegation zone but probably have to consolidate over the next six games to stand any chance of survival as their last four games sees them face Liverpool, United, Chelsea and Arsenal. stoke are only a couple of points better off and are thankful for that fine win over arsenal, that will have eased the pressure and they should now cruise to safety. Draw 1-1.
  • Chelsea v Tottenham 17:30
  • An opportunity for both clubs to make a massive statement to the teams around them as a win for Chelsea would see them lead the table by seven points while Tottenham have a great opportunity to put pressure on the teams ahead of them, should they win the fixture against Arsenal next week would give them the opportunity to draw level with their rivals and that would be a great incentive. With none of the other three teams involved in league games this week this game takes on extra significance and though tottenham have not fared well against Chelsea during the Premiership era they have managed to regularly get results in recent seasons. Chelsea will be the overwhelming favourites and my guess is that they will just get over the line. Home win 2-1.
