Premier League predictions-Week 7.(Saturday)

Posted on October 05, 2013 by Eddie S

The last round of fixtures in the Premier League start today before the final defining international break of the year takes place. The current league table is certainly nothing like most would have imagined it to be even at this early stage and it could look significantly different again once this round of fixtures has been completed.

Saturday 5th October

Manchester City v Everton

The early kick off of the weekend and a crucial game for both teams. City have been stunned this week with two humiliating defeats, the first to a Villa team searching for form and shorn of their star forwards, the second an absolute footballing lesson from the European Champions on their own patch. Everton remain the only undefeated team in the league already and will hope to take that into the break. This is a tough one to predict but City are a team in shock and will have to come out all guns blazing, they need to convince their own supporters that they are still one of the best groups of players and because of that and home advantage I’m going for City to win 2-0.

Cardiff v Newcastle

Cardiff are proving themselves to be a formidable team, especially at home, and capable of scoring goals if they manage to get the upperhand, defensively they are sound which is more than can be said of Pardew’s Newcastle side. Newcastle are struggling to some extent and need to tighten up at the back before they will be able to pull clear of the relegation zone. Unfortunately I can only see more heartbreak for the Toon, it has to be Cardiff 2-1.

Fulham v Stoke

We all know what Martin Jol is capable of and we are probably more aware than most that his teams are invariably slow starters, it was probably his downfall with Tottenham. His Fulham team and he himself is in dire need of a win against a Stoke team that have performed better than many expected until that poor home game to Norwich last week. I was close to calling this a home win and some much needed relief for Jol going into the break but unfortunately defensively they are struggling and on that basis have to plump for a 1-1 draw.

Hull v Villa

Hull are one of the surprise packages so far this season and eighth position and ten points from six games is justified, Tom Huddlestone and Jake Livermore have become ever present in the team since coming on in the second half against Chelsea on the opening day and other players have been just as impressive. Villa are going through a period when important players are injured but last weeks fighting performance and win over Manchester City will give them great encouragement while they await the return of their talisman Christian Benteke. Just taking Hull to nick this one by the narrowest of margins; Hull 1-0.

Liverpool v Palace

Won’t dwell on this one too much as Liverpool are producing excellent results and performances intermingled with the unexpected as usual, while Palace seem doomed at this point with a limp attack and defensive errors the recipe for relegation: Liverpool 3-0.

Sunderland v Manchester United

Both teams are seriously under performing but whereas Sunderland are facing up to a relegation battle last years champions Manchester United have their own problems also. Sunderland have already sacked their controversial coach Paolo di Canio and the caretaker managed to coax a decent performance from his players last week against Arsenal. With Fergie gone and Moyes in his place, United currently have problems on the pitch following a difficult transfer window in which it seemed players were reluctant to join with the club in a state of limbo while things settled. United have been well beaten home and away in the league recently and were even pegged back late on in Europe in midweek and are in the middle of what you might call a mini crisis. I don’t think things will get any better for David Moyes after today as I am going for a 1-1 draw.
