Premier League round 9 predictions.

Posted on October 25, 2013 by Eddie S

As game nine of the season approaches it is all to play for at the top and bottom of the league, a couple of consecutive wins can change everything for any club and make all the difference when it comes to staving off relegation, chasing European qualification or for more clubs than you might expect title pretensions.

After a truly awful set of predictions in round seven I managed to pull it back last time out, see how Round Eight Predictions resulted in two perfect scores and six other correct results, just how that would have fared in a football betting accumulator last week I have no idea but it is something to look into this week and report back on in the future, with that in mind let’s have a look at round nine:premier league

Sat 26 Oct 2013 – Premier League

    • Crystal Palace v Arsenal 12:45

It is often the case that a change of coach galvanises a team in the following fixtures as the players attempt to make an impression for the new coach. Ian Holloway stepped down from the Palace hotseat earlier this week as they had become whipping boys for the majority of the other teams in the top division. Home and away they are now beginning to take a pounding and this week they entertain the league leaders Arsenal and the omens are not good. Expect a spirited performance up until the time Arsenal open their account and then heads will drop and another defeat will surely follow. A comfortable outing expected for Arsenal and a 3-0 win.(Away win)

    • Aston Villa v Everton 15:00

This is one of the more difficult fixtures to judge, Everton have lost just the one fixture and that only to Manchester City while Villa have hit a difficult patch since that inspiring win over Manchester City. With the return of Christian Benteke their spirit will be lifted as well as their fortunes. This will be a close run thing but i take Aston Villa to turn the corner and with home advantage take the points with a 2-1 victory.(Home win)

    • Liverpool v West Brom 15:00

Liverpool are doing particularly well this season but are still susceptible to the odd poor performance while WBA,  after a sluggish start, have begun to string some decent performances together including that marvelous display at Old Trafford. Liverpool came unstuck quite recently against Southampton who have a similar defensive quality to WBA. Home advantage or not I fancy WBA to put ina strong defensive performance and grab a point in a goalless game.(Draw)

    • Man Utd v Stoke 15:00

Neither team can be happy with their current form but United did manage to snatch a win in the Champions League on Wednesday and surely will be far too strong for a Stoke team that have begun to sink near to the relegation zone after such early promise. David Moyes must be starting to feel the pressure and united really need to kick on now if they are to remain serious challengers for the title. the big guns will be chosen for this fixture and that should ensure a comfortable win by 2-0.(Home win)

      • Norwich v Cardiff 15:00

Norwich performances probably deserve better than their lowly position suggests but a lack of goals and errors at the back have contributed to a position in the relegation zone. They now face a Cardiff team sitting one place and one point ahead and a team beginning to struggle a little after an impressive opening period to the season. This is the opportunity that Norwich need to kick on this season, a good win should see them shoot up the table as they are only four points off Newcastle who are the last team in the top half. Cardiff seem to be having a few problems behind the scenes, a strange appointment and dismissal seems to have rocked the boat of stability. Norwich to get all three points by 2-0.(Home win)

  • Southampton v Fulham 17:30

Southampton are not exactly the surprise package of the season as they were a handful toward the end of the last season but they have improved with some astute signings. They are the second best defensive outfit in the whole of Europe and are genuine top six contenders or perhaps even better. Fulham and Martin Jol were under considerable pressure until recently but a couple of wins have made all the difference. This will be a close encounter in my opinion but ultimately Southampton will win the day and keep the pressure on at the top of the table with a narrow 2-1 scoreline.(Home win)premier league

Sun 27 Oct 2013 – Premier League

    • Sunderland v Newcastle 13:30

This is a big game for both clubs, each of them needs the three points and it is of course two local teams going head to head, it is as big a derby as any in the league. For the newly appointed coach of Sunderland Gus Poyet it is a chance to raise the spirits of the entire fan base and the club after a thoroughly miserable season so far. Newcastle also have their problems although the return of Cabaye and the form of Remy has certainly made a difference. If Poyet can somehow sort out the defensive errors in the short time he has been in charge then the club have a decent chance of picking up a result but the best I can give them is a 1-1 draw.(Score draw)

    • Chelsea v Man City 16:00

The big one of this weeks encounters and the most difficult to call. Neither club has yet hit the heights and yet they have maintained their challenge and remain as two of the favourites for the title. Both had to travel in midweek for Champions League fixtures and both had very good wins. Chelsea probably hold the advantage having had an extra days rest and less travelling to contend with and that will possibly make a difference, nevertheless this has a 1-1 scoreline written all over it.(Score draw)

    • Swansea v West Ham 16:00

Swansea will try to pass West Ham off the park while big Sam will probably set his team up to absorb the pressure and strike on the break as they did in their big win over Tottenham a few weeks back. This time I believe that the aerial ability and strength of Michu and Bony will win the day and that Swansea will win by a couple of goals without reply 2-0.(Home win)

    • Tottenham v Hull 16:00

These two teams will go head to head again on Wednesday in the Capital One Cup but expect two entirely different lineups for each fixture. Hull have had a nice rest since their last fixture while Tottenham had to contend with travelling for their European fixture on Thursday, that is always a problem but there will be several team changes. Tom Huddlestone returns to the Lane for the first time since his transfer and will be assured of a warm welcome, we know that he is not a prolific scorer but what are the odds that he might pop up with a goal that finally allows him to have that long awaited haircut? Townsend, Soldado and Paulinho will undoubtedly return to the fray for this one and should ensure a decent win and a 3-1 scoreline.(Home win)
