Premierleague predictions (Wed.12/2)

Posted on February 12, 2014 by Eddie S

After yesterdays abysmal showing my confidence is well and truly shot to pieces but I’m not beaten and will carry on regardless. Last nights four games looked to be easier to predict than the set tonight but let’s see how we get on. Most of these games affect positions at the top of the table and there is every chance that we shall see a new name at the top tonight.

  • Arsenal v Man Utd 19:45
  • Two teams suffering at the moment though United would much rather be in Arsenal’s position as they remain very much in the race for the title, United meanwhile are hanging on by their coat tails to the hope of Champions League football next season and tonight’s results might leave them needing to win the trophy in Europe to qualify. David Moyes keeps telling us all that United have been unlucky and that results will turn soon but I don’t see it happening tonight. Arsenal will have been stung by the Liverpool thrashing but just as they recovered from the City hiding and the defeat to Villa I am taking them to bounce back again. Home win 2-0.
  • Everton v Crystal Palace 19:45
  • Everton were unlucky against Tottenham and could quite easily have been a couple of goals up inside fifteen minutes, that they weren’t was down to an inspired Hugo Lloris, my MOTM, and a lack of a striker due to injuries. Palace are currently the form team and surprisingly good to watch, Tony Pullis has bought well in the transfer market and the loan of Ince has been a real coup. It’s onwards and upwards for Palace but they might have to settle for the one point in this tough encounter. Draw 1-1.
  • Man City v Sunderland 19:45
  • City are in a two game drought and Chelsea have shown the opposition how to handle their strike force badly missing the guile of Aguero. Though Sunderland are much improved under Gus Poyet and have managed some fantastic results particularly away from home this will be one of their toughest. Adam Johnson will be returning to the Etihad with plenty to prove, he has regained his form which was stifled at City and will cause a few upsets before the game is over. City to get back to winning ways. Home win 3-0.
  • Newcastle v Tottenham 19:45
  • Always difficult to give an unbiased opinion when dealing with my own team but have generally managed to do so this season. Much will depend upon the personnel Sherwood chooses and the set up of the team but with Newcastle experiencing plenty of problems of late and suffering from injuries and suspensions to important players perhaps against my better judgement I’m taking Tottenham to do well. Away win 3-1.
  • Stoke v Swansea 19:45
  • The home team have put in some decent performances of late and picked up  a few important points against the odds but both teams are still bang in trouble and a win for either team will certainly ease the pressure. Swansea, like WBA last night, do not look anything like a team facing a relegation fight but they are. The eventual return of Michu and the form of Bony should ultimately sort things for them while for Stoke the goals of Crouch are all important. Away win 1-2.
  • Fulham v Liverpool
  • The Fulham performance against United probably gained them a lot more admirers and though their backs were against the wall for most of the game the equaliser was in fact well deserved. Some new faces and younger players with pace and a willingness to work. Liverpool probably put in one of the performances of the season against Arsenal, certainly their best twenty minutes in a very long time and now we shall see whether it was a one off or they are real contenders. Away win 1-3.

I don’t know, something tells me Arsenal won’t get all 3 points if even any tonight. A draw or a United win I think. (perhaps just some wishful thinking, let’s see if they continue to bottle it)

With a bit of luck maybe Fulham will manage to share the points too – although they really need to start well and maintain something near an A game.

Fingers crossed you are right about Everton draw, but I feel they will just edge ahead for the win.

More so, let’s just hope we can do our stuff on a trip up to Newcastle.

    • Tony says:

We need to concentrate on us, keep winning and putting pressure on others and we could be alright.Wishful thinking is a draw for arsenal and at least a draw for Fulham. Really impressed with Palace under Pullis and they will give it a good go. Perhaps Lucky Tim will get his wishes come true.
