Premiership Predictions round 17.

Posted on December 22, 2013 by Eddie S

Well yesterdays predictions brought some improvement on some of those prior to my recent break and only a late WBA equaliser thwarted a perfect score. So on to the remaining fixtures which will all be extremely difficult to call and all will have a huge impact in the top half of the table.

We seem to have reached the point when the top teams have finally worked things out, are finding their form and giving weaker teams very little opportunity, this has been helped by some continuity after international breaks and games in Europe becoming less important as progression was achieved early in some cases.

Sun 22 Dec 2013 – Premier League

  • Southampton v Tottenham 13:30
  • This is one of those games where literally anything could happen, a resounding win for the home team or a gutsy performance from Tottenham to turn their season around again. I am not even clear as to the lineup we might expect from tottenham under Sherwood but can only assume he will retain a 4 4 2. Southampton are a very good team and their coach is very tactically astute so with home advantage the points should really be theirs in the circumstances but I am taking player pride to earn Tottenham a point.2-2 Draw.
  • Swansea v Everton 16:00
  • Everton are riding the crest of a wave at the moment and their last away outing at arsenal deserved far more than a point as they dictated proceedings for 80% of the time. At home Swansea will keep the ball for long periods and probe for a weakness but unfortunately they are struggling to find enough firepower to finish off teams. Everton to continue their march up the table. Away win 1-0.

Mon 23 Dec 2013 – Premier League

  • Arsenal v Chelsea 20:00
  • Things have turned on their head for Arsenal in no time, several points clear and now overhauled by city and Liverpool with the team facing them also able to forge ahead if they should win. Arsenal have probably suffered from being the one team from the Premiership needing the right result going into the last European fixture and from what is a light squad in comparison to others. Chelsea have not hit the heights but have managed to get the breaks and results up to this point.
  • This is a crucial game for Arsenal, defeat and a slip down to fourth place will hurt after leading by so many points for so long. Because Chelsea themselves are struggling for performance I take Arsenal on this occasion. Home win 2-1.
