Premiership predictions round 23

Posted on January 27, 2014 by Eddie S

After what seems an eternity it’s back to normality and the return of the Premier League as a full round of fixtures takes place over the next two days. As you can probably appreciate there were few FA Cup fixtures that really captured the imagination and so I again gave  predictions a miss, having said that Andros drew some great ties out of the hat yesterday and I am sure that I will have something to say when those games come around. On to tomorrows round of fixtures :-

Tue 28 Jan 2014 – Premier League

  • Man Utd v Cardiff 19:45
  • It is likely that the new boy Juan Mata will at least play some part in the game having at last completed his move from Chelsea for more than £37m, United certainly need something or someone to transform their season and a battling Cardiff now led by one of their old favourites might not be what is needed at this time.  Cardiff have also made a few signings but United should just about have too much for them especially one or both of Rooney and RVP make their returns. Home win 2-0.premier league
  • Norwich v Newcastle 19:45
  • Both teams managed good and important wins last team out and both will be hoping to maintain that form for very different reasons. Norwich need points to stay away from the relegation zone while Newcastle are right in the chase for European qualification for next season. Norwich have not had the best of luck at times this season but have played good football without having the cutting edge to make it count while Newcastle have better creative talent. Away win 2-1.
  • Southampton v Arsenal 19:45
  • This is one of those difficult encounters to predict, Southampton were one of the leading lights early in the season before losing their way but have recently begun to regain some form, Arsenal just seem to have found the way to get a result despite some indifferent performances, always capable of scoring a goal or two in rapid time they have found grit to their game. With home advantage and players capable of breaching the Arsenal backline this is one that could go either way and so I am taking a Draw 2-2.
  • Swansea v Fulham 19:45
  • Two teams in desperate need of points, both deep in the relegation mire, they go into to this fixture knowing that the a win for Fulham will see them climb above Swansea who are in free fall after promising so much early in the season. Let’s not be very clear both teams could easily finish in the bottom three this season, such is their form, though one good result for either might turn their season around. Home advantage and in particular the form of Bony just gives Swansea the edge for me. home win 2-0.
  • Crystal Palace v Hull 20:00
  • Palace were dead and buried just a couple of months ago and most peoples favourites for the drop, but Tony Pullis has weaved his magic and his team have at least temporarily dragged themselves out of the bottom three, three more points tomorrow would be very welcome and ease the tension no end. Hull have struggled on their travels this season despite impressing with their performances, it will be interesting to see whether the acquisition of a couple of new strikers will make the difference. Sneaky feeling for hull on this occasion. Away win 1-0.premier league
  • Liverpool v Everton 20:00
  • A vital game for both clubs as they battle for a top four position so important to their ambitions for the season. rodgers talks Liverpool up as title contenders and true to form they lose while Martinez at the beginning of the season promised that his aims were a top four position. The more creative players and prolific goalscorers of Liverpool versus an Everton team that have at times played some outstanding football. Difficult to pick a winner and so I won’t. Draw 2-2.

  1. Akhil says:

2-2 draw? You think lallana and jay rodriguez could score 2 goals against arsenal… Brave one! Considering osvaldo is suspended and their best centre back lovren is injured, i’d go for a 2-0 victory for gunners! Ps: they are a club in crisis and i think their goalie is also injured. I’ve been reading your predictions and usually yours are spot on! Great work!!!

    • Tony says:

If I remember rightly their keeper handed the game to arsenal in the 1st game. Southampton are a decent team on their day and with home advantage must have a decent chance of some sort of result. To be fair to Eddie his predictions are generally based upon what he thinks rather than what he hopes.

    • Eddie S says:

How about that then, as predicted.

  2. steve says:

If cabaye goes on the missing list again I fancy a result for Norwich.

  3. tom says:

3 exact scores, not too shabby.

    • Jeff says:

I’m gob-smacked. Had to check the posting date to see whether you actually “predicted” after the matches were played. Not too shabby indeed

  4. Eric says:

Wow 3 right, way to go Eddie
