Premiership predictions round 24.

Posted on January 31, 2014 by Eddie S

After some decent predictions for Tuesdays fixtures those on Wednesday disappointed with just that exciting Villa win correct, in my defence Chelsea had 38 attempts on West Hams goal but somehow failed to score even the once while over at Tottenham as we all know one particular linesman sunk any hope of that prediction having a chance with two diabolical, since proven incorrect, decisions that also ensured the dismissal of Danny Rose. Anyway no great harm done and all clubs still have the opportunity to right the wrongs of the evening before the season is over.

Sat 1 Feb 2014 – Premier League

  • Newcastle v Sunderland 12:45
  • Newcastle have lost a crucial talent with Cabaye having headed off to PSG and they seek a replacement today which is no easy task. Sunderland have climbed away from the relegation places for the first time this season and have strengthened their squad. This is going to be a fiery affair as local rivals meet. Draw 2-2.
  • West Ham v Swansea 12:45
  • An incredible defensive display in midweek from West Ham at Chelsea drew the anger of Mourinho, which was quite humorous when you consider the defensive performances he has overseen against United and Bayern Munich this season. The Hammers will have taken strength from that impossible draw especially as they now face a brittle Swansea. Both picked up the result that they needed in midweek and this will be a tight encounter nevertheless while it seems likely that Swansea will as usual dominate possession i’ going with the home team. home win 2-1.
  • Cardiff v Norwich 15:00
  • Another six pointer down at the bottom end of the table with Cardiff propping them all up while Norwich have maqnaged to climb to 12th yet are still only 5 points from dropping back into trouble. Cardiff have rarely been found wanting in terms of effort and put in a very decent performance at City, with new players on board and time running out it’s cardiff for me. Home win 2-0.
  • Everton v Aston Villa 15:00
  • A thorough going over by their local rivals in midweek might have begun alarm bells ringing at Everton while the complete opposite occurred at Villa as they overcame WBA with Benteke once more on the team sheet. Everton will be looking to recover while Villa look to kick on and for that reason  I’ll sit on the fence. Draw 2-2.
  • Fulham v Southampton 15:00
  • Fulham are in it deep but the news today that they have addressed some issues will help them immensely, holtby on loan will add a bit more pace and snap to centre midfield and will be a big improvement on the attitude of their previous playmaker Taarabt, alongside the experience of Scott Parker we might see Holtby really blossom. Southampton have only managed a couple of high scoring draws recently but in both instances were superior, Arsenal were given the runaround for most of the first half and Southampton should have been out of sight. Home win 2-1.
  • Hull v Tottenham 15:00
  • Hull are a team heavily reliant on their home form and have surprisingly slipped down the table and now badly need points while Tottenham will be trying to put the city game behind them and need 3 points to keep pace with those ahead and around in the chase for a top four position. Danny Rose will be back as his sending off has been withdrawn (pity we can’t play the last 40 minutes again as the result could easily have been very different) and hopefully it is time for Paulinho and Vertonghen to make their mark. Away win 3-1.
  • Stoke v Man Utd 15:00
  • Just when Man.United think things will only get easier they have to go to Stoke and though they are not the Stoke of old under Tony Pullis they still possess many of the attributes of his team and they have players to worry the United defence. both teams need the points desperately for very different reason and while United have now spent more than £65m on two panic buys in the past two transfer windows they still have problems to address. Stoke will have probably borrowed to strengthen but will fight all the way. Draw 1-1.
