Probable Tottenham lineup tonight.

Posted on March 20, 2014 by Guest Writer

Hugo Lloris, Erik Lamela, Etienne Capoue, Mousa Dembele, Paulinho and Emmanuel Adebayor, Michael Dawson, Vlad Chiriches, Younes Kaboul and Kyle Walker are all out, and Jan Vertonghen is of course,  suspended and so Tottenham are clearly going to find it difficult to put out a team capable of scoring three goals  tonight and maintaining a clean sheet. If all of these players were actually injured there would be a great deal of sympathy for the coach having to put a team together to attempt the almost impossible but the sad truth is that they are not all injured and my guess is that perhaps as many as six plus Vertonghen will feature in some way in our next league fixture against Southampton.

Tottenham washed their hands of all the cup competitions almost as soon as AVB was made the scapegoat by the media vultures who had an agenda against either him, Tottenham or both and though in the last round the players pride, after going 2-0 down early in the second half, ruined the plan for a time as they stormed back to take their place in the last 16 tonight will be the final roll for another season.

Many deride the Europa League and playing midweek as one of the major reasons for the clubs failure to progress into the Champions League but it is no different to playing in the competition that we all want to see us involved in, so we play on a Thursday and Sunday rather than Tueday or Wednesday/Saturday, I see little difference other than a better quality of team in the Champions League, little opportunity to rest players because of that and the quality of the Premier League, when the likes of Real Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern and PSG can rest players for league fixtures it’s not quite as easy as that in the Premier League to ensure success. The secondary cup competition should be taken seriously by any club wishing to take the step up as it is the equivalent at a slightly lower level to what they hope to achieve, benfica

Back to tonight and the team that takes to the field to make us proud in difficult circumstances, it seems that Sandro might be come a makeshift central defender so leaving the midfield exposed in his absence which might be a huge mistake, if the defence is already vulnerable the last thing needed is to also weaken the cover in front of them and hopefully Sherwood might have a surprise up his sleeve though doubtful. Based upon our current plight and the players that are available we are likely to see a very adventurous set of players take to the field, attack is the best form of defence as they say and Tottenham supporters would prefer to see the team go down fighting than with a whimper.

We might well see one or two of the youngsters come into play late on to experience first team and European football but hopefully none will exposed to a nightmare scenario that might harm their futures.
