Send Carroll back a star Harry.

Posted on September 03, 2013 by Random Spurs Supporter

Harry Redknapp managed to secure loan deals for two of Tottenham fans favourites late yesterday with Benoit Assou-Ekotto moving across on a one year loan, he left with absolutely no ill will toward Tottenham and wished the club success this coming season. In many ways his leaving is a little disappointing as he proved to be well liked by most of the fans as well as an exceptionally player. He was as we know a bit of a maverick in more ways than one, always looking to play the beautiful game which sometimes involved him costing the team goals.

Let’s not forget that his good performances at left back forced the issue in respect of pushing Gareth Bale further forward, Benni was always the better defender of the two and they complimented one another down the left flank. Whether it was the injury that he suffered early into last season that he failed to recover from or simply not finding the blend to play with all the alternatives AVB used to modify Bales position in the team, Benni never really rediscovered his form. We wish him well this coming season and hopefully he will again turn out at White Hart Lane in the future whether with QPR or another.

The other loanee might turn out to be a bit special sometime soon, Tom Carroll although still young has been able to showcase his qualities at times and is a player expected by all at the club to reach the top. By sending him out to QPR and Redknapp who knows him well having also gave him a decent amount of playing time while in charge, AVB and Tottenham might just be allowing his development to occur that much quicker. As was the case with Andros Townsend in the second half of last season, Redknapp and QPR also gave him the platform to develop and he has been a revelation so far and earned himself an England call up.

These were probably perfect moves for both players but for different reason, all Tottenham supporters will watch developments closely and wish them both huge success. The problem with squad development and ambition is that some fans favourites become collateral damage, Thud, Scotty, Benni and Caulker fall under that category but there is considerable hope that Tom Carroll will return a star in his own right in a little under a years time.
